Retailers have been ordered to destroy all copies of the One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP promo DVD containing footage of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game, according to the Sinobi retailer blog.

Namco Bandai, the game's publisher, is taking this extreme measures because one of the characters has a special attack that causes earthquakes and tsunamis. The removal of this movie is due to the recent earthquake in Japan that hit the country on March 11.

The game, which was delayed because of the natural disaster, has no specific release date in Japan.

I can understand wanting to be sensitive in light of what happen but that's really extreme. Clearly it was out before the earthquake and I doubt people would think they did it to be cruel, etc. Wouldn't this actually bring more attention to when it might have been overlooked?

Someone somewhere would have complained and that would have been enough to start a firestorm. Plus, nipping it in the bud early is good PR for them.

It's not so much avoiding offending people, it's more about being sensitive to their plight.
A few years ago a Pokémon anime episode was banned because one of the monsters (I think it was a Whiscash) caused a devastating earthquake in a small town - and then a real live earthquake happened a few days before the scheduled airdate. For some reason the ban carried over to all other countries, despite the episode being completed.

I'm glad it was just a DVD they wanted destroyed.. It's just a videogame, and a coincidence.

I hope they don't take out this character (Shirohige) of the game just because of the unfortunate events that Japan is going through. Besides, this character has been dead for months in the manga, and not to mention that another character (Kurohige) took his power and will use it, so I'm left wondering how they're going to be sensitive towards that.

I doubt they'd take him or Black Beard out. At the moment it's just too soon for people to see it I assume. But it probably wont affect the game.

NetherRealms should kill off Raiden because a few people were struck by lightning.
