Title: Questions about the Wii
Post by: Kytim89 on February 15, 2011, 07:10:33 PM
The other day I was playing some virtual console games and I realized that if the Wii can emulate such consoles as the SNES, N64, Neo Geo and so on, does this mean that in a way I have these console even though I do not posses them in my collection? This sounds like a dumb question, but this is what I have always liked about the Wii: It is an amalgamation of several other consoles.

Yeah in a way you can think of it like that Kytim. The GBASP can be thought of like the GB and GBC since it is backwards compatable with those games. Its pretty cool to have games from years gone by on the console.

No, renounce the VC and buy the originals. That is the only true way of reaching gaming enlightenment.

Has anyone ever watched the original Mortal Kombat movie? If so, does anyone remeber the villian in the film? When he defeated any opponent he would say, "Your soul is mine!" and proceed to absord his defeated enemy's spirit into his body. Well, this villian reminds me of Nintendo and they basically absorbed the souls of their former competitiors consoles into the Wii. A slight, but strange comparison that I wish to share with all of you.

I look forward to the day when I can play PS3 and Xbox360 games on my Wii 3.

A few more questions about the Wii:

If I were to buy a black Wii would I be able to transfer over my online game saves?

I bought a pair of black Wii Gamecube slot and memory card covers for my white Wii and for some reason the covers wont stay attached to the Wii, so is there a difference among the two colors or there somethig wrong with my Wii?

AFAIK, the color of the Wii doesn't matter since the systems are the same.

What do you mean by online games saves? If you mean WiiWare and VC, depends on the game. It's the same with retail Wii games, some let you transfer the save files and some don't (but WiiWare and VC are difficult in that legally you can't transfer the actual games yourself without getting Nintendo involved.)

I apologize that I was not explicit enough, but I meant online game saves such as Conduit and Monster Hunter Tri.

I don't think they transfer Kytim but I haven't gotten an extra system. Call up Nintendo.I'm sure they know.

No. they can't transfer those because the online game saves are connected to your console code. A different console will have a different code and therefore not work.

Even with the few online games that do allow you to copy the save, it will not copy the online portion of it. For example, if you copy your save of Mario Strikers Charged to an SD card, the copied save would have your records for the Striker Cup, but it would not contain your friend code and online win/loss record.

I want to upgrade to a black Wii and transfer over everything on my white Wii.

Place some tape over an open slots of your Wii, then spray it down with a can or two of black spray paint.  Let it dry, and finish up the covered parts with a paintbrush.  Voila!  Upgrade complete!

It'd be a lot easier (and cleaner) to just buy a replacement case. It only takes about a dozen screws. Besides, you can get those in ANY color you want. ;)

But spray paint is so much more fun!

Fun, yes. The end result would vary entirely upon how much time and effort you put into it however. For a finish that's actually worth looking at, you'd have to take the case off anyway. :P
