Title: New Items Added to Club Nintendo Rewards List
Post by: NWR_pap64 on February 09, 2011, 05:22:14 PM

Nintendo gets a little retro and reversible with these new reward items.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/25114

Nintendo has announced two new items will be available from Club Nintendo. The first of these is a replica of the Game & Watch handheld, Ball. For 1,200 coins, members can obtain the handheld replica of the game, which was originally released in 1980 and was the first Game & Watch game released. The handheld, however, has yet to be added to the Club Nintendo database.

The second is a Nintendo DS carrying pouch. Made out of a suede-like material, the pouch can be reversed to reveal another color and design. 250 coins are needed to obtain the pouches.

The reissued Game & Watch is really cool, but I don't need another electronic thingy sitting around my apartment, especially one that I'd play for ten minutes and never touch after that. I just ordered the blue pouch, which will be perfect to hold and protect my Kindle during travel.

Is the Kindle really that small?

in the comparison shot I posted in the PSP2 thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=30989.msg653625#msg653625), it looks like it* may be a bit too big. I guess you'll find out soon enough though.

*I'm assuming the Nook & Kindle are roughly the same size.

The Game & Watch replica is probably the first real reward at Club Nintendo (not counting the G&W DS games since I don't have a DS) I actually feel tempted to buy.  But if I were to redeem my coins on such a replica, I probably wouldn't do it for a ball-juggling one.  Besides, 1,200 coins is a pretty ludicrous price for something that's probably not expensive to manufacture, and which costs just 3/4 of the total price of getting the DS collections with all the games.  I've been a member of Club Nintendo since it launched, and I don't have that many more coins than that purchase price.  Still, this is the first clear indication that Nintendo may actually have listened to all our complaints that the Club Nintendo rewards were pitiful.  Maybe sometime before the summer when a good many of my coins expire, they will put up a CD Soundtrack or something that I'd want to purchase.

i wish nintendo just put like 20 g&w games on it with a backlight, but they are going to release all of them eventually individually.

The Kindle is really really small, unless you got the larger DX. I love my Kindle. It was the best investment I ever made (or rather, that my godmother made for me). I read around 1-2 books a week, and the Kindle has already paid for itself.

Hmm, I might get the red DS carrying pouch to carry the 3DS.

The bag is supposed to be 8.25x5", which is definitely tall enough and just barely wide enough to hold a Kindle 3.

I second the hearty recommendation for Kindle. The new version has a superb display and is quite affordable. You can get tons of free (and legal) public domain books from sites like Feedbooks. I have been using the Kindle web browser to download those books directly to the device. The other really nice feature is downloading sample chapters from the store. The samples are generously sized and give you a very good idea of whether you will like the rest of the book.

I've always wanted a Game and Watch, just to have that piece of Nintendo history, but I was never able to get my hands on one. This is the next best thing.

Would I rather buy the game and watch replica and waste all of my coins, or pay 200 nintendo points and download a better game and watch title to my dsi?
I think I'm going to go with the seconds option. However, it is nice to know that Nintendo may actually put up some goodies that people will actually want.

Too bad it's still just old Club Nintendo Japan stuff, and not something unique.

We're North Americans.  Would you really expect Japan-focused Nintendo to give enough of a damn to give us something unique and relatively free they hadn't already offered the Japanese?

No, but Europe's gotten unique stuff. And I don't mean just postcards and screensavers.

What about the three tote bags, the two exclusive WiiWare games, the NSMBWii Wrist Straps, the Mario and Zelda posters, and the Kirby patches?

We've gotten some pretty neat exclusives, along with some of Japan's leftovers...

PS: My Game and Watch has shipped as well - whoo!

Like the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack.

I sort of got the shaft with the Kirby patches in that they got lost in the mail but they re-sent them and gave me an exclusive Kirby patch that's not available on Club Nintendo at all as a way of saying sorry. They're pretty awesome--I should have a short blog post up about them soon.

I really, REALLY want the G&W replica, but it's...expensive. I only have 100-something coins right now, so it'll be awhile before I can get it. The reversable pouch is kind of nice and I could carry lots of stuff in it. I dunno. It'll still be awhile before I can afford it, either. I like doing my Club Nintendo blog posts, so I'm still actively saving up for stuff.
