Title: World's Favorite Videogames chosen by the people
Post by: Papissama on February 04, 2011, 06:15:35 PM
If you feel like putting your 2 cents in, here's new project where each gamer make his/her top 25 favorite games of all time (1st=25pts, 2nd=24pts, ..., 25th=1pt), and those results are compiled together in real-time to decide the world's favorite games.
Here are the current results (http://www.unikgamer.com/tops/greatest-video-games-of-all-time-1.html) that involves 974 gamers so far.
Other top-lists are also available (by years, decades, genres, systems and even a Top 10 most wanted) for you to mess around with.
Post the link of your Top games and feel free to discuss your choices! It's a really fun concept, especially if you're a longtime gamer (and bored :D ).

I am blown away that the top five does not consist entirely of games released within the last six months. Usually publicly voted "best ever" lists are overly represented by recent works due to people having no memory or perspective.

Within the first 50 there are a lot of "Are you shitting me, really top 50?". Both Mass Effect games, Portal, overload of Final Fantasy, Fallout 3, Eldar Scrolls Oblivion, MGS4 and Bioshock fall into this. Regardless of ranking, these made top 50?!
Nintendo is heavily represented with 15/50, not counting the Rare games(-2), but including pokemon(+2) and retro (+1).
Otherwise this has a surprising amount of historical depth as Ian has pointed out, although it's still pretty shallow, but it is based on popularity, not historical significance.

I really disagree with the list. OOT is not even my favorite Zelda game, yet alone my favorite game of all time. I could name at least 30 games I like more than it. That's why I try to avoid these types of lists usually.

I was going to complain about the late 90s skew, but it looks like things are beginning to balance out.

It is just a glorified popularity contest with some advanced features but I think it can be a little different than what we're used to.
It's not a simple poll based voting, its has a point based system. The voting is always going on because lists change for each person... The lists can be adjusted at any time and changed which make the points always changing. You can say that it's like getting to know people as gamers...
Here is my list by the way: http://www.unikgamer.com/members/papissama-1.html (http://www.unikgamer.com/members/papissama-1.html)
Great list I know, right! ;D

More than 1000 gamers are in and the new version of the site is finally up :D
Some new cool features have been added with the redesign but it's still not finished yet. What do you guys think so far though?

We can now rank our Top 20 games of this generation, Top 10 Shoot'em up, Top 10 games of 1995 and Top 15 GameCube games.
In addition to that you can also check out which gamers have similar gaming taste based on our top lists.

Has there even been 20 top games this generation? It all seems to blend into an gray and brown unreal engine 3 mess.

Minecraft.
That's good for at least twenty or thirty spots this generation.

I guess Deus Ex at #33 isn't AWFUL, considering the #1 and #2 slots. The top 20 is entirely monopolized by Nintendo (mostly Zelda) and Final Fantasy, as well as a handful of fairly recent games, none of which really break any ground or do anything better than their predecessors, with Portal being the possible exception (I'll give a free pass to Half-Life 2 because of how perfectly paced it was). I mean really. Mass Effect and Fallout 3?
EDIT: Deus Ex at #2 on the Top PC Games list makes me feel better.

@all: you have to realize the fact that our unikGamer community is at its beginning at the moment. There are only over 1,3oo users right now. It's up to us to spread the word and get more people involved, so that we have a more representative result. So please do so and tell all your friends.

It warms my heart to see Melee beat Brawl. I didn't realize how much I actually liked Melee till I got Brawl and found I like Melee a lot better.
Filter it to Female and its more interesting.
