Title: zap's up all night thread - Ye Royal Wedding Edition
Post by: King of Twitch on January 19, 2011, 12:17:46 AM
Nothing like a Nintendo announcement to get you in the spirit of the season! I'm going to be up, waiting for Reggie to show up on my roof and cross my name off his list. While watching my lizard molt before my very eyes is pretty awesome, what else should I do until then?
-play games -read a book -dvd -clean -draw -watch reruns of Reggie on youtube -make jell-o? -something else

Only 7 hours to go. You may need to make some tea and drink it quickly for a caffeine rush.

11:30pm I just read a news story about a mom who disconnected her teen children from tv, internet, ipods, etc for 6 months. It was kind of boring.
30 minutes til Reggie arrives!

11:39pm I'm the only one manning this ship; no sign of Pro's Twitter feed going berserk and mauling threads, but the night is still young. RFN 227 is not making this any easier. I might browse for typos to point out.

I highly doubt that. For one, I don't believe that game allowed you to move your player faster than light, and even if it did a hockey rink is much too small to be able to use the Picard Maneuver effectively.

What the sweet **** color of madness is this?
You don't need to travel at the speed of light in the hockey rink, only fast enough to appear to have near instantaneously moved from one position to an appropriate blind spot. This blind spot can be up the other players Arse. Curb stomping Mario style is also acceptable.
What the hell is this with this PG rated Royal Wedding, didn't get any skin or dead animals sentient or otherwise.

The Picard Maneuver (http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Picard_Maneuver) requires high warp speed to work, in order to trick your opponent into seeing two of you.

You assume that you need light relative distances and speeds. The human eye and brain respond orders of magnitude slower. Exceeding the speed where persistence of vision (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistence_of_vision) starts factoring in is all you need to perform the Picard Maneuver on a human. Hiding up his arse is optional.

True. I still stand by the second part of my original statement, that a hockey rink is too small to effectively use the Picard Maneuver.

Only at warp speeds.
Also punching the opposing player may also be sufficient to induce double vision to replicate the Picard manoeuvre without absurd speeds. However this would invoke a black and white entity known as a ref. Refs are Q's of Ice Hockey.
