Title: KyTim89's Virtual Console Controller Adapter and Wii
Post by: Kytim89 on January 11, 2011, 12:57:30 AM
Not too long ago I bought an adapter that plugs into one of the Gamecube ports on my Wii and allows me to play the Virtual Console games with their respective retro controllers. The adapter includes ports for NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis. I later realized that since the Master System and Commodore 64 uses the same controller cables as the Genesis this adapter can now accomodate two more controllers. However, the adapter does not have a port for Turbografx 16 nor the Neo Geo.

Here is my dilema: I need some way to to use my TG16 and Neo Geo controller for my virtual console games. The only problem is that Neo Geo controllers are very expensive and hard to find. I have searched Ebay and found several, but they are fifty dollars or more and they are imports from Japan. However, I did find a Neo Geo controller for the PS2 along with a second adapter that allows a PS2 controller to be played on the Gamecube/Wii. I might look into going this route, which would leave me with the TG16 controller.

I have found that the TG16 controller is similar enough to the NES controller that I actually substitute it with the NES controller to play Rondo of Blood. This is just not the same and I want an alternative like actually using the original controller.

Lastly, the only way I can get these controllers to work is to do a bunch of wiring and soldering that is way betond my abilities to perform. Also, I found a SNK Neo Geo fight stick for the Wii for $80, but that is still too high.

Can anyone confirm for me whether the cable connecter on the SEGA Dreamcast controller is the same/similar as the one on Gamecube?

I am thinking about buying the PS2 controller and an adapter that will allow it to be played on my Wii's Gamecube port. Does anyone have one for sale?

This is awesome, but does anyone know where to get them?  Seems like it was only released in Japan.  The only import place I could find that didn't have a big "out of stock" sign was http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/wii/neogeostick2.htm (http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/wii/neogeostick2.htm) - that doesn't necessarily mean it actually is available there, however.

Probably too pricey for me anyway.  My two TvsC fightsticks for $40 will be good enough... but this is a pretty sweet piece of kit for old-school Neo Geo fans.

These controller were placed in their own spot mainly because they can not work on either the adapter or the Wii console itself. However, the Atari 2600 controller can and will work with the Master System/Genesis port on the adapter, but sine there are no Atari games on the Virtual Console I decided to put it over in the exile pile. Also, the Atari controller can be used for the Commodore 64 games on VC.

Note that there is no Neo Geo controller of any kind in the pile.

My primary target here is the Turbo Pad and I wish to find a way to use it on either the adapter itself or some how direcly with the Gamecube port on the Wii. So far I have found no solution.

I have decided to save my money and either buy the Neo Geo Stick 2 for the Wii or PS2, or the Neo Geo Pad 2 for the PS2 and use the adapter I found to play it on the Wii.

Here is that adapter I found on Amazon.com:

I might have found a possible solution to my Turbografx-16 controller dilema:

How so? You can't use USB controllers on the Wii. For your fight stick concerns, I would get whatever stick you want to use, and get a Wii Classic Controller for each stick (I know, it'll get expensive), then just gut out the CC and solder the pads accordingly to how you would want them to work on the fight stick in question. I'm sure all of the fight sticks will have huge solder pads on them, or if not, an easy test point for each button that you can use. I've never opened a CC, but I imagine it would be relatively easy to use. Here's what the board looks like.

Give it a test before you commit to it, then cut off the original cable (or tuck it inside) and feed the Wii CC cable through and now you have a (semi) wireless fight stick that will work on any game that supports the CC.

@ BranDogg

That USB adapter is a simple solution. All I would have to is clip off the USB from the chip and splice a Gamecube controller in its place.

Here is a site that foun called InfiniteNESLives. The guy converts old controllers to play on the Wii or computers via the USB port. The only draw back is that the guy is a little pricey.

I have already sent my TG16 controller in to have its cord replaced with a NES one so that it can be used on my adapter.

He would do it for $40, not including shipping and handling.

Chozo, I take care of everything I own, and rest assured that if you were to buy new from me that it would still be in a similar condition as it was when it was taken out of the box.
