Title: Nintendo doing it again??
Post by: Berto2K on May 01, 2003, 12:56:18 AM
It seems to me that Nintendo is releasing (hopefully not) most of its big news before E3 like last year. Already we have Mario Kart, Rogue Squadron 3, and now Metal Gear. We know of other stuff already too from while back of what was gonna be there such as FF, F-Zero, Soul Calibur 2, etc. Could this just be the attention getters and there is more just as good things to come and surprise us at E3? I do hope there is for the rest of the gaming community because it is the press conference that gets almost most of the press from E3. And if Nintendo can't bring it to the table for the press, it may fall farther behind.

You know these are the offical lists. THere are behind close doors plays, not to mention the conference the day before E3 were all the major announcments are to be made. They still haven't covered what Silicon Knights game they are going to have playible. (Its been announced as an unknown.) The biggest announcments will be the games that are not playible.

As for the Pilot Wings game don't get too excited it isn't offical yet.

As for Nintendo doing it agian, they weren't the ones who leaked the E3 press guide to the public before the show. If its announced by Nintendo before the show that means there is more in store at the show itself.

What if Pilotwings was the "secret" game and now it's been given away?  I wouldn't be surprised at all.  I'm not holding my breath for any huge announcements, it seems to me that Nintendo's plate is already full!  But I'm no psychic genius, so I shut up now.

All these third-party deals make it seem like Nintendo's plate is really full, but that may not be the case.  Below is a list of all the Nintendo-involved games that I can think of that have been announced or heavily rumored.  The first batch is 3rd-party games, the second section covers miscellaneous 2nd and 1st party games, while the last part is EAD itself.  Games with a (?) are not confirmed.

Zoonami:  Game Zero
Namco:  Star Fox Armada
Sega:  F-Zero GC
Treasure:  Wario World
Camelot:  Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Camelot RPG (?)
Factor 5:  Star Wars: Rebel Assault, Pilotwings GC (?)
Square:  Final Fantasy:  Crystal Chronicles

Silicon Knights:  Metal Gear Solid:  TTS, Too Human
Retro:  Metroid Prime 2
NST:  1080 Avalanche
HAL:  Kirby's Air Ride
Intelligent Systems:

Nintendo EAD:  Mario Kart, Pikmin 2, Pokemon Box, Donkey Kong Next (?), Pokemon Stadium (?), Mario 128

Nintendo has so far outsourced F-Zero, Star Fox, Wario, and maybe even Pilotwings.  While Silicon Knights and Retro probably have their hands full, NST and HAL can certainly be working on other projects.  Even Intelligent Systems might have a GC game going.  Most interesting is EAD.  Besides Mario Kart and Pikmin 2, everything else they are working on is still wrapped in mystery.  They probably have a couple of shockers if the rumor of NST developing Mario Kart is true.

Man, that would be lame if their "big secret" was pilotwings.

I'm predicting Mario 128 is the show stopper this year.

Mario Kart is being developed by NST. Also, Donkey Kong may also be developed by NST.

Hmm....DK and MK: Double Dash are being developed by NST? Wow that really does make you wonder what else EAD could have up there sleeve. I wonder how many of these "new" franchises we'll see from them and Miyamoto at E3?

Mario Kart is NOT being developed by NST. That is an OLD rumor and the Mario Kart page on this site hasn't been updated.

Miyamoto said HAL is working on multiple projects (GDC roundtable), probably Kirby's Air Ride and Pokemon Stadium. HAL always made stadium, and Miyamoto accidently let something about Stadium slip in the same interview.

NST probably can't handle more than 1080, they are already having enough trouble.

Too Human probably won't even be at E3 this year....

Intelligent Systems is working on Advance Wars 2, maybe a new Fire Emblem, and maybe more stuff....

EAD has over 1000 people and have only announced Pikmin 2, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing 2 (long ways away), and Mario 128...They definately have way more.

EAD has over 1000 people? Didnt know that. I think you people need to settle with the fact that something new will definetely be shown. Surprises, of high quality 3rd,2nd,1st party exclusives etc
E3 was always a surprise and anticipate show, and BTW, while we know of games being developed, like Game Zero, we might know absolutely nothing about it. Game Zero could be a fishing SIM.

How do you know that Mario Kart isn't being develop by NST? PGC has updated their Mario Kart page with a new title, info, and screen shots. So how come they didn't change the developer? Each of NST games GCN games have a subtitle that deals with the games feature. Blue Storm for the weather effects, Avalanche for the snow effects, and Double Dash for the two characters. PGC has strong contacts with NST and the rumor LAN game that Louie talked about was about Mario Kart. Also, I think that at the DICE Summit, Nintendo said the localization for Mario Kart is done which suggest the NST is the one making it.

If Nintendo's concentrating on new and original games this E3, then they are doing the smart thing.  They are revealing more or all their sequels of their installed franchises before-hand so they can hype their originals at E3.

Official means it has been announced by the publisher and the developer (in this case Nintendo and Factor 5, respectively).  I believe neither of which has happened.

The new zelda game is just the new Gameboy Advance one. Nintendo made it really obvious in an e-mail that they sent some guy in the n-philes forums.  But holy crap! The Silicon Knights MGS is going to be amazing. I have never played a whole MGS game so I am almsot pissing my pants

The new zelda game is just the new one on GBA. Nintendo gave it away in an e-mail they sent to some guy on an n-philes thread. The new MGS thingy by SK is going to be so awesome though. I almost pissed my pants when I read it on PGC. I have never played more than a few minutes of a MGS game.

Geez, that was a double post, anyways I think Nintendo will have something there not telling us.  I mean, Nintendo wouldn't just have said before space world, "Oh, we scraped the realistic Zelda and changed it to a toon shaded one".  They have something HUGE under their sleeves they aren't telling us...

You said it. I bet it's not going to look anything like Mario 64, either. The game was supposedly in development in tandem with Mario Sunshine, not after, and they've continued to work on it since. I'm just hoping for something as rich as Melee's Adventure Mode take on Mario (the road to Peach's Castle area), could you imagine that expanded into a full Mario game? (I don't mean the 2.5D play, although I certainly wouldn't complain about that myself, but no, it'll be 3D...)

I think this time, though, we know what the titles will be, but it'll be huge to actually _see_ them. (Last year we knew about them and had already seen some major details and shots.) Nintendo's being very tight about screenshots and even information about many of these titles, we just know they'll be there, and some random, baseline tidbits. (Sega's trying the same thing, there is not a single screenshot of Sonic Heroes on the net yet, even though new games like Sonic Battle for the GBA, Vectorman and Headhunter: Redemption both for the PS2 had screenshots available.) They're going for old-school unveilings, and I think it might work.

Actually Miyamoto said that Mario 128 would be more of a true successor to Mario 64 than Super Mario Sunshine was.

In years prior to '03, Nintendo was even more secret with their titles.  This year, although the information is few and far in between, it is more abundant in comparison to previous years.

True, but I think he meant more in terms of innovation and polish-level, rather than, "It will be Mario 64 2."
