Fiscal year hardware forecasts revise sales expectations.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011, Nintendo's hardware forecasts for investors show that they expect to sell a total of around four million Nintendo 3DS consoles.

The predicted Nintendo DS console sales total 23.5 million systems, revised from the original 30 million forecast in previous reports. This includes sales of all DS and 3DS units. DS software sales are predicted to be 125 million units, with 15 million of those as 3DS software sales.

As for Wii, 17.5 million consoles and 165 million software units are expected to be sold before the financial year ends.

*Article amended due to an earlier misprint for 3DS software sales.

4 million 3DS units, and 125 million 3DS software sales?? That's 31 games per unit sold...

4 million systems in less than 2 months? Not a chance. MAYBE holiday sales, but not in February and March (even if they manage to get all three regions before that date).

And as MaryJane pointed out, that is a huge tie ration they expect (unless that number also includes DS games).

It's a typo in the source article.

Quote
For the current fiscal term ending March 31, 2011, Nintendo expects to sell 4 million 3DS system. It anticipates software sales of 15 million for the system.

Other systems got downward revisions. Nintendo expects to sell 17.5 million Wii systems, down from the original 18 million forecast. Its Wii software forecast fell from 165 million to 135 million.

Nintendo now expects to sell 23.5 million DS systems, down from the original 30 million forecast. For 3DS software, it expects sales of 125 million units, down from the original 150 million forecast.

First paragraph is 3DS.  Second is Wii.  Third is DS.

Nintendo expects to sell 15 million 3DS games and 125 million DS games.

Thanks for your help guys, it should have been obvious that it didn't make sense, we're up to 20 news articles for the press conference today though! I changed the article on the site earlier, and now I've fixed the talkback post. Andriasang updated that the DS figures are for DS and 3DS combined, so it's 125 million games, with 15 million of those being for 3DS.

I also doubt they will sell 4 million systems in 5 weeks, especially since a majority of that time will likely be only Japan. Now, if they had released the new Pokémon game on the 3DS...

Even if they somehow managed to manufacture 4 million 3DS units by April, I doubt they would manage to sell that many $250-$300 units in only 5 weeks.  By Summer?  Yeah, sure.  But not in 5 weeks with mostly Japan sales to go on.

For reference, anyone have the first few weeks of sales for the DS and/or DSi handy?

I do have to say, this looks like a topic for Place Yer Bets.
