Title: What resolution uses the GC games?

Soul Calibur 2 in Xbox runs at 1920x720 (I think so). Why the Game Cube version don't works at 1280x1024??

I want to know the resolution of Rogue Leader, Luigi's, etc..., the standard res. in GC games.

Last I heard, the Xbox VGA adaptors could only manage 640x480.. though I suppose you could use one of those expensive Component-to-VGA adaptors to get 720p or 1080i.

Gamecube games run at something close to 640x480, without exception.

no, i don't think 1280x1024
you see, your TV screen is actually quite low-res, even the "high resolution" ones, compared to PC-crt's
So a high pixel resolution won't be visible above a certain value, and would be a total waste of rendering time.

I think  that value is between 640x480 and 800x600 pixels.

No GameCube title runs in a higher resolution than 640x480 Progressive Scan.  The X-Box is the only machine that can do the full range of HDTV resolutions, but those are game-specific ... not all the games support all the resolutions possible.

a ntsc tv resulution is 512*384 at 60 herz and a pal tv resolution is 640*480 ay 50 hertz
game who suport hdtv have a resoltion of 1024*784 for ntsc

That's mostly correct, but if we're being technical let's be pedantic too. The hdtv standard is actually called ATSC.  NTSC refers only to the old 480-line interlaced 60Hz standard (there are actually 525 lines in NTSC, but usually only 480 are used).  There really is no standard for the horizontal resolution.  It's limited by how fast the signal generator can modulate the signal, and of course the physical resolution of the display device.

As Angus pointed out, there is no real limit to the horizontal resolution.  Widescreen console games (including those on GameCube) run at 854x480 progressive and/or interlaced.

Many screenshots would tell us GameCube games process at 640x448 (we don't get the full 480 cuz TV monitors end up covering the few top and bottom scanlines, so why waste pixels), but the actual video feed does occupy 480(vert) by adding miniscule black borders.
