Title: Metroid: Other M Commercials Launch Worldwide
Post by: MegaByte on August 19, 2010, 01:12:25 PM

Commercials show off both action and drama sides of Samus' latest adventure. UPDATED.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/23895

Two commercials for Metroid: Other M have been posted to the official Japanese Metroid website.  The first features several cutscenes relating to Samus' past, including scenes not shown until now.  Our Japan Correspondent, Matt Walker, has translated the first trailer, which you can watch below.

Samusあれからどれくらい経ったのだろうか?How long has it been since then...?
幼くして両親を失った私は常に意地を張り心を閉ざした。I've always been stubborn and closed myself off to people since I lost my parents when I was young.
Adam
異論はないな、レィディ。Any objections, lady?
Samus待ってくれアダム!Wait, Adam!
少しだけ時間をくれないか?Can't you give me a little more time?
私は幼すぎた。I was too young.
無茶を寄せ!Don't be unreasonable!
あまりにも子供だった。I was such a child...

The second commercial creatively links the gameplay control of the original Metroid game with Other M, morphing from the former to the latter.  It ends with the catchphrase, "Metoroido Omoroido," which is a play on "omoroi," meaning fun or exciting.  The phrase was originally used in the Japanese Metroid II commercial 18 years ago.

A US commercial will also be airing.  The commercial features a live-action rendition of Other M.  [UPDATE: The US commercial is now on the Nintendo Channel and can be found below.]  Gameplay commercials  have also begun airing in the UK.

Metroid: Other M releases on August 31 in North America, September 2 in Japan and Australia, and September 3 in Europe.

That Metroid II commercial is too awesome for words.

Hmm, long hair Samus or short hair Samus. Decisions, decisions.

Always nice to see the Spartan looks of a Japanese video game box art. It's just a big close up of Samus in the Power Suit. Er, assuming that is the box art.

Enner: It is.  You can see it in our artwork gallery for the game.
Neal: You should see the Metroid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceoxI8QdcCY) and Super Metroid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMUw6EiQOgQ) commercials!

I love the American Ad. LOVE IT  :-*

Japan ad 1: All CGI -meh
Japan ad 2: neat transition from NES to Wii, and nice way to show control method

However USA is still #1

I am so depressed that I'm totally broke and can't buy this game anytime soon.

Remember how bad the Metroid Prime 3 ad was with the airport. Its sort of funny in retrospective

The original Metroid Prime ad is pretty cool and Other M is spiritual sequel in ad design.

I thought it would be at first (idk what there obsession with the thumbs down is), but when you see Samus reaching out to the baby, the rest of it gave me chills, it was actually kind of awesome.

It looked like her younger self was in the middle of doing something and it just looked like a thumbs down I think as you can see other troops moving slowly on the right side of that scene when Samus' back is to us.

That Metroid II commercial was great, though it made the game seem a lot more awesome than it really is. At least the NES one showed some footage of the game.

Ah, it looks so nice. Though, the US cover is just as pretty. Those Japanese commercials for the older games are pretty sweet.

Hmm, I really like the US advert. I found the slo-mo scenes of Samus's past to be really cool. That's probably because I spent quite a bit of time reading all that Metroid back story.

That UK one is great cuz it reminds me of all the action figure commercials from the 80's and early 90's.
