Show attendance was as expected, but that's a good thing.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has released the attendance figures for E3 2010.

45,600 attendees came to the show from around the world, which is right in line with the ESA's 45,000-attendee estimate.  There were roughly 300 exhibitors in the Los Angeles Convention Center, and retail participation in the show was up 20 percent.

The dates for E3 2011 were also released, with the show once again taking place in Los Angeles from June 7 to June 9, 2011.

That's way too many people in one place. Maybe it is a good thing I couldn't go.

Here's hoping they don't schedule it up against the end of the NBA finals next year.

Or the Lakers don't make the finals hurr durr

Does that mean if I get to go next year, I shouldn't invite you as my +1?

It really is.  It's hard to really put into words what its like.  I couldn't even really fathom it the first time I went  The second time it hit me how unhelpful all these people are.

You know what's funny? I think 2005 or 2006 had 70,000. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if there were 35,000 more people.

If you thought the Nintendo lines were bad this year, in those years the lines wrapped around the entire building... it would take the whole day just waiting for Zelda or Wii.  Last year was a much better balance.

Those 70K+ crowds are the exact reason the ESA shrunk E3 down, it had gotten so bad that you could basically get a E3 pass just by working at GameStop. The whole point of E3 is to show journalists (real journalists, not bloggers) and retailers what games that the companies are working on, it's not a gaming convention for fanboys to spend 3 days goofing off and getting free swag and ogle booth babes.

But in the world of videogames the fanboys are the journalists...

Capcom's booth was before Nintendo's on the right side of West Hall's main path. They had models in zombie makeup, locked in Go Go dancer cages,  promoting Dead Rising 2. It caused a huge logjam at that corner all week.

I'm not quite sure what a log jam is, but putting it into the context of gamers at E3 I'm gonna assume it' something like this x45k:

Not what I meant when I used the term "logjam" but probably also true in some cases.

A logjam is another word for an deadlock.  It comes from the log flumes used in commercial logging: it is when a bunch of logs get stuck together in the flume and stop the flow of logs to the bottom.

I know what you meant by the term, my mind just subsequently got an image similar to the one BnM posted except with thousands of nerds in the picture...not a pleasant thought.

Isn't most of that focused on the public days, though?

Yeah, but the first day of TGS is press only.
