Title: Reggie vs. Mr. Iwata
Post by: UncleBob on June 16, 2010, 02:07:40 AM
No, this isn't an all out, last man standing, death thread...
I noticed, several times today, people would refer to Reggie by his first name, but generally refer to Iwata or Miyamoto as "Mr. Iwata" and "Mr. Miyamoto".
Then, while browsing the E3 press site, I noticed, in the left column... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/TheUncleBob/mrreggie.jpg)
Any idea why Reggie and Cammie are mentioned in a more familiar manner while the Japanese team is in the more respectful manner?

Because they're Japanese and they're a little more formal by custom/tradition?

Because calling him Mr. Fils-Aime would make him sound like a sissy.

Miyamoto strikes me as a very non-traditional person. Perhaps I'm reading him the wrong way (which is possible, since I've never actually met the man...)
Says the person who has never posted a pic of themself... :p
Please please. I'd rather not spend the money on a new monitor after this one cracks.
too easy
just kidding Mop it up, you know I <3 you

Hello Richard,
I can understand your confusion regarding the differences in how our executives are addressed. The difference has to do with the different cultures that Nintendo recognizes. The Japanese culture tends to be more formal in business, while the culture in the United States, and most definitely in our American offices, is informal. That difference is reflected in how we address the different members of our company, as we want to address them in the manner they feel most comfortable with.

It seems like we all have this conversation every so often... ;)

I guess I must have missed it. I'll make a note of it if you tell the story once more.

UncleBob is the name he uses to lure children into his home. Then he steals all of their gaming gear for his collection and lets them go...

Richard is also the name of the guy who was at the Penguin United E3 booth.
So when UncleBob tells people to go to their booth and ask for Richard, it's a little disappointing when it's not UncleBob you get to talk to :(
Fortunately, I found out it wasn't going to be him ahead of time, at least. And Penguin United has good stuff.

Not much to say, I introduced myself, handed him a card, got a kit with their stuff, he asked what I thought between two new DS game cases, Chris tried out the Eagle Eye (I'm not an FPS fan, and he has mouse + keyboard experience). It was nice to meet the guys. I picked the case that had colors closer to PixlBit's, and perhaps in the future, we'll do some product reviews or something. I'm not sure if Chris got enough time to write impressions of Eagle Eye, or if anyone went back for it, but I might write-up those DS game cases, just because more people need to know about them.
