The classic is reborn exclusively for Wii, courtesy of Activision.

 Confirming the trailer that was leaked yesterday, today Nintendo confirmed a Wii-exclusive remake of Goldeneye 007 exclusively for Wii.    


The trailer was that was leaked was the one used in Nintendo's E3 presentation today, so have a look if you haven't seen it.  The game is being developed by Activision.    


Goldeneye 007 will release this holiday season.

Since Nintendo owns the rights, it pretty much had to be for Wii. I wonder if they will include the N64 original as an unlockable? Or maybe even release it on the VC? That would be a big seller on the VC.

I am looking forward to this game but would like to see more footage as the game progresses. When EA acquired the license after RARE they failed to continue running with the torch and dropped it. Then followed by Activision-Blizzard who did not do so well either. Now they are trying again. They say they are trying to bring back the elements from the game that we loved so much, and I hope this is true. While the series slipped behind as bigger, better shooters came out, I hope that the developers take note if they are going to keep up and appeal to the shooter market as well as fans of the franchise. Breathe some life back into it.

I'm sure this has been said in other threads but this game only plays on the heart strings of people that remember the experience that they had with the original GoldenEye.

A re-released, up-res'd, re-tooled controls for pointer, with online multiplayer capability under the "arcade" section on the Wii Shop Channel would turn over more profit than this retail release. Then you will see what you remembered about the game you played years ago.

There are three major "evolutions" of FPS's, GoldenEye 007(N64); Halo; Call of Duty 4. Time Splitters 2 is a good stop in between the first two and Medal of Honor between the last two.

CoD4 is today's standard.............. do you WANT to go back to using Pichu when everyone else has a level 63 Richu?

I'll take it that he meant "console FPS evolutions." In which case, he is 100 percent right on the mark.

Goldeneye made FPSs good on consoles.
Halo brought LAN and online to prominence.
CoD4 made the online play even deeper.

I hate to be nitpicky, but your timeline is a little out of whack. How can TimeSplitters 2 be considered a stop-gap between GoldenEye 007 and Halo: Combat Evolved when it came out after Halo (the boxart even included the EGM quote that it was the greatest FPS since Halo). Nevermind, I just realized you had it backwards. MOH would be the stop-gap between the first two, and TS2 the stop-gap between the second and third.

I agree, the PC is being left out including Half-Life 1 and 2. Also CoD4 wasn't that big of a step up from previous CoD games, it is just the one that people latched onto.

Anyways I'm looking forward to Goldeneye 007 but with careful optimism, I will not buy the game until I see a few reviews.

I'm right there with you, GP, 'cept I might be reviewing it.

I've never been a big FPS guy, but I love me some Goldeneye, specifically local multi. I think there is only room for one FPS this fall for me to get into. It's between this or Conduit 2.

Good catch Spyke.....a LOT of weed back in that day....

GP, I got madd respect for the Orange Box stuff and what FPS's on PC are really about but you hit what I was saying, "what was latched onto", If you hit up the "REGULAR" gamer those are the standouts because of commercial success and mass appeal.

I wont buy the game until I see a few reviews, but I am hoping that this game is successful enough to spark interest in doing something with the older Goldeneye game for virtual console. We can only hope.  :cool;

Good choice, we learned our lesson with The Conduit and it's hype train. Not that the game was bad, just uneventful.....

But I digress, IF tlc is given to this title then it can be extremely enjoyable no matter the graphical style, what most of us remember about GoldenEye 007(N64) was the fun we had. It was a time when FPS's didn't need to take itself "SO SERIOUS" Give us that and at least those of us on this site will have a reason to get together and Chop, paintball, golden PP7, proximity, or Odd Job ourselves into a hysterical coma.

Whatever feelings there is toward Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I think it's not fair to not call a large step in its genre. While Battlefield 2 is the earliest game in my mind to feature persistent multiplayer unlocks, Modern Warfare took it to a whole new level with various perks that twiddle with a player characters stats. There were class-based shooters before, but none that lets you create your own class as in CoD4. Shame that I mostly care about single player.

Looking at Eurocom's track record (Dead Space: Extraction and James Bond 007: Nightfire stick out for me), I don't have high expectations for Goldeneye 007. Then again, maybe this will be their break out game. Fingers crossed.

Hope may not be enough. While Nintendo expressed interest in having the game on it's virtual console it seems that no agreement could be made financially. RARE was then to develop a port for Xbox Live but the project was killed off when Microsoft and Nintendo could not come to an agreement financially. If Nintendo cannot have it then Xbox is not getting it either.
