Title: RUMOR: Nintendo Clears Third Parties to Announce 3DS Titles at E3
Post by: Crimm on June 09, 2010, 12:37:53 AM
RUMOR: Reports indicate that third-parties had been, up to now, unable to announce games for Nintendo's 3D successor to the DS.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=23217

It has been known for a while that Nintendo plans to show the 3DS in some capacity at E3 next week.  It's not known how much they plan to show of their next handheld, which they announced a few months prior, but Game Informer is reporting that third parities will be clear to show their titles for the new system once E3 begins.

What remains to be seen is how far along third-party titles for the 3DS are in their development; we don't know how long developers have had development kits for the new handheld.

The unofficial start of E3 2010 is next Monday, June 14 with the a slate of press conferences that continue into Tuesday, when Nintendo has their press conference and the E3 show floor opens.  Besides the 3D screens, very little is known about the 3DS, but expect all that to change in a week.

Wow. Perhaps there will be a big E3 reveal and not just the "working on it" line.

It'd be nice to have a launch with more than just a handful of interesting games.

Not that I'm saying that's going to happen here.  Just that it'd be nice.

Wow. Perhaps there will be a big E3 reveal and not just the "working on it" line.

It has to be.  The thing is being released in March, less than a year away and this is the event the press actually pays attention to.  All the cards will be on the table.

I personally think it will have a good launch lineup.  After Nintendo's domination everywhere and especially with the DS they have to want to get in on the ground floor here.  Also Nintendo knows they can't count on them to release something so they will have something good.
This time Nintendo doesn't have to push things out faster because of the psp and there won't be some big stigma about them getting pushed out of the handheld space, they have all the expectations on their side and that will give them a much stronger starting lineup.

Hey, I don't mind a few mini-game collections.  Sometimes those are the best games for a portable.  3DS Club House games for the win...with more games and better interface please.

The "don't know how long developers have had development kits for the new handheld" part was the only bad part of the article :P

I am hoping for a No More Heroes, Dead Space and Sonic Chronicles 3DS game. These along with a new 3D Starfox game and I will be as happy as a oppossum eating peaches while hanging from a branch. ;D

Something is bugging me, how will the clam shell of the 3DS close with a analog stick?

The analog stick will be flat like the d-pad, but the 3d effect will make it appear to pop up.

How big si the 3DS going to be when it is revealed? Does anyone care to speculate. I am speculating that it will be about the size of the DSi.

Why would you need 3D glasses if the 3DS doesn't need them for other stuff? Think, McFly.

Or there is a sunken in analog joystick, that will not stick above the normally closed clamshell.  It is really quite simple to design...and if it is designed carefully it could actually be used as the main D-pad as well without difficulties.

No analogue device could ever match the precision of digital input.

Tell that to so someone trying to play Super Mario 64 DS.

Indeed.  Man, the controls in that game were so horrible I can't believe I actually put a fair number of hours into that port.

Super Mario 64 was designed for an analogue stick. Some games are designed for a D-pad, and wouldn't work very well with analogue. One such game is Tetris; it requires fast, precise movements that would be impossible using analogue input.
