Title: Resident Evil shenanigans
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on April 26, 2003, 02:04:11 PM
Ok d00ds, I was playing the original Resident Evil, with Chris on Real Survival, and I killed a fresh, new, unharmed zombie with ONE BULLET from the standard pistol - his head exploded. I didn't think that was possible on the first hit - it makes me wonder if the odds of it happening can be improved with distance, angle, that sort of thing. I am hereby dispatching an investigation on what improves the odds, if anything, so get on it, plz.

Aiming up tends to increase the chances in my experience.  It's still random though.  It could happen on the first, or the 20th shot.

Yeah I know all about that, sometimes it takes me a couple shots to kill a zombie.  Didn't know it was random, I thought it was all about the aiming.

I had thought that it was a weighted random number.  Some things do help, but I have never found a way of getting a headshot every time.

I have to wonder if it calculates the actual bullet path with a random offset - or if standing with your gun at about the zombie's head level will increase the odds (like being positioned up a couple of steps on a stairway).

It's all about the aiming, if it looks like the pistol is aimed straight at the zombies head, thats the only time ive ever shot thier heads off. It's not random, if you aim for thier feet their heads wont blow off. You just have to aim for the head and hope that it blows thier head off. Btw, it's much easier with a shotgun.

You CAN blow their heads off, in as little as one shot, with a pistol that's aimed level, from level/equal footing. We're just exploring any possible ideas to increase the probability here.

nintendo should have redone RE 2 and 3. we all patiently waited for the first and ZERO and the reaction was good. no one seems to like the RE 2 and 3 for nintendo...that is because they have been out for like 5 years! plus what is the point of taking a N4 game and puttin on gamecube? i play them because i am a RE fanatic but i just realy would have enjoyed them with Nintendo Gamecube graphics...

That's all good and well, but this thread is actually about the finer gameplay points of RE1 there, pardner

:gb2gcd:

Incidentally, has anyone beaten the Snake either time without using any ammo?

Here's an update, it's actually fun and easy to beat the snake with just the knife - and hell, you pretty much HAVE to for ammo's sake on Chris's Real Survival.
