Title: Sadness Composer Releases Soundtrack
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on May 26, 2010, 12:23:04 AM
With the release of the actual game in limbo, the composer behind the survival-horror title releases his work online.

Arkadiusz Reikowski, the composer behind the announced-but-unseen Wii game Sadness, has released his work for the soundtrack online.   This furthers speculation that the game will never see the light of day.

The game, announced in 2006, was to be a black and white survival-horror game from Polish developer Nibris.   The blog that Reikowski contacted states plainly that the project was abandoned, but no official cancellation from Nibris has ever been released.   In February 2008, footage of the game appeared to surface, but was shortly pulled.  In February 2010 the game’s website vanished, fueling speculation that the plug was officially pulled at that time.

The released tracks were meant to echo the styles of Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoki and Siren:Blood Curse composer Hitomi Shimizu, while still containing elements that were unique to Sadness.   The music can be downloaded from the Polish blog where the tracks were leaked.

Why did they commission a soundtrack...for a game that never was going to be made?

I'm confused.

I'm sure it was going to be made but things happened and the release of the game is not so certain now. Maybe they got the soundtrack done but the rest was not finished.

All we got was concept art...four years ago.

Are you kidding me Crimm we got something in 2008. Maybe Nibrus is taking their time to make it good.

Go re-read the story.  Composer says the game is canceled.

It really does seem like this game was never more than concept art.  There's an interview over at N-Europe (http://www.n-europe.com/news.php?nid=13183) that suggests that a 3D Mine Cart was also completed.   As the article states, GoNintendo actually had a leak of some video footage back in 2008, but immediately pulled it down.

Sounds like this project is the more the work of concept artists than video game developers.   Sad, too, because it could have been really interesting.

I thought that maybe this was a get rich quick scheme a la 'The Producers'. Guys create a 'concept', show it off to investors, get money from investors interested in cashing in on the Wii phenomenon, guys run off with cash.

I'm making Sadness now, so stay tuned.

This is my new and improved concept art.
