Title: Problems with Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Toruresu on May 20, 2010, 03:48:53 PM
Hello!

I currently cannot connect to MH3 at all. I get the error 11619 and that apparently means that my connection settings aren't letting me connect. I have a Zhone gateway (modem/router), my Wii is set to a static IP and it's set on DMZ. I can play Mario Kart Wii, CoD:MW Reflex and Smash no problem, it's just this game.

Nintendo says they can't help me since my settings are correct, my ISP tells me they aren't blocking anything and that the ports on my router for the Wii ISP are opened and it's on DMZ and Capcom doesn't tell me anything. I posted on the Capcom tech support boards:
http://www.capcom-unity.com/tech_support/go/thread/view/7301/23980393/Monster_Hunter_Tri_Error_11619 (http://www.capcom-unity.com/tech_support/go/thread/view/7301/23980393/Monster_Hunter_Tri_Error_11619)

I thought my problem might be that I had a LinkSys and the Zhone gateway together, but I've since taken the LinkSys out, still not working.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions that might help?

Edit: /facepalm Wrong link. Thanks Maxi!

"I currently cannot connect to MH3 at all."

Describe what your connection history's been like since the game came out.

He's never been able to, I believe.

Exactly this. It goes up to 85% then gives me error 11619. I can play any other Wii online game I have, except this.

Your ISP, and what region are you connecting from?

ISP is D-Max and I'm connecting from Puerto Rico.

Have you experienced playing Brawl with someone located in California?

Are you connecting Tri by choosing a city, or by making a city and having others join?
(I don't have the game, I'm just going thru some leads)

To connect in try you have to choose go to city instead of go to town (single player). When I click City, a bar appears (loading/connecting) and it always reaches 85% and then just stays there until the error screen.

I don't know if I've ever played brawl vs someone in California. I've played Maxi, you and others here on NWR, not sure where you/they live.

For some background:  To play Monster Hunter, after choosing the initial online mode (City), it does some connection work with a progress bar that fills up to 100%.  After that, you're asked to agree to Capcom's terms of service, and from there, you choose a server to connect to.  After choosing from a server that can hold 2000 people, you're asked to choose between one of several city gates, each capable of holding 100 people.  From there, you choose an individual city, which can hold up to four people.

There have been times where I've been booted from a city, but not from a city gate, for whatever reason, and that's about as far as I can say to give background information without saying anything technical.

Regardless, it looks like Toruresu is stuck on the very first part, and is unable to even connect to Capcom's severs.

From what I've researched, there was a known routing issue for Euro players in the UK, causing the same error code.  It's been fixed for some, and not at all for others.

I've tried tracerouting to D-Max's website and a couple other Puerto Rico ISPs, and the paths looked bad, showing a lot of time-outs and an eventual abort once in touch with Puerto Rico-based servers.

I know Capcom USA is headquartered in California, but I don't know if they have servers on the East Coast.  If Capcom's server is based in California, they might be outright rejecting your connection due to the poor route between our regions.

Will continue to research this throughout the week.

Thanks a lot Pro. I have a friend with the same ISP here in PR and he can play no problem. I wonder if that changes what your train of thought.

It's the same ISP but we are in different zones, I don't know how to explain this well. He has 1 brand modem and I have another one. I asked the ISP about it and they said you get one or the other depending on your zoning and the different lines available. I hope this makes sense to you.

I think Toruresu forgot to mention one interesting detail.

If he disables WiiConnect24 and attempts to connect, he gets a different error code: 11613. I wonder if there is any significance to that...

Oh my.  What you should do, tho inconvenient, is physically switch Wii systems and try both connections.

I got my Wii to his house, it worked like a charm. I think it's either my sucky Zhone gateway my ISP gave me or my zoning thing sucks so much that I can't play it.

Yes, bark up your ISP with this new information.

I did. They say they have opened all ports and that they aren't blocking anything in my connection, so basically not a problem they can fix.

That bad huh? The Nintendo rep was like "Oh..a Zhone eh? Hmm...yeah, those are a bit weird to configure."

/sigh

Is there any way you could check out my settings and stuff? Like, remotely take over my laptop?

I'll have to get you that tomorrow, it's not accessible at this time and in its software, it doesn't say.

Edit: Yes it does say
Model Number 6388-A2-XXX

I can provide a PDF manual of the router. Let me know where to send it.

When you assigned a static IP address to your Wii, did you supply a MAC address?

When you see the list of devices currently connected to the router (via the router setup), do you properly see the Wii's MAC address?
Title: Re: Problems with Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Toruresu on May 24, 2010, 10:01:51 AM
Yeah, inside my router I can see the Mac address of the Wii. I didn't enter it to the router because the router assigns the static IP via a check box that says "save address" or something similar.

I didn't input anything on the Wii.

Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on May 25, 2010, 03:21:08 AM
Have you tried manually setting both the router and the Wii?  Like, don't rely on auto-assigning, no automatic checkboxes, just make sure both devices are using the same numbers that you set yourself explicitly.

Post by: Toruresu on May 25, 2010, 12:18:30 PM
I have not been able to, but I'll try again. The router is a bit weird, and I'm not sure how to do it without the check box.
I'll try later today.

I'm assuming we're using the Zhone as the modem and the router, leaving out the Linksys router completely.
http://www.zhone.com/support/manuals/docs/63/6388-A2-GB20-00.pdf

If I'm reading the manual correctly, setup a LAN client first (pg. 3-29), under Advanced > LAN Client.

Provide the Wii's MAC address, name the connection, and designate an IP address that fits within the IP range you provide under Setup > LAN Configuration. (pg. 3-19)

The router's IP is 192.168.1.1, then the Start IP is a .2, and the end IP could be a .11, for a total of 10 computers/devices maximum (whatever the need of your network).  It's better if the Wii was assigned the very last one, the .11 in our example.

After that, you can assign the DMZ to the Static IP we want under Advanced > Port Forwarding. (pg. 3-27)

Then, go into the Wii connection setup and fill in the info according to
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/getOnline/manual.jsp

but with these exceptions:
static IP:  use the one you decided
DNS servers:  use the router's local IP, 192.168.1.1
MTU value:  use the value already in your Zhone's PPPoE configuration (pg. 3-8); my ISP didn't tell me what to use, so I chose 1500 for my router and Wii

Oops.  So you got past the "first" problem, huh?

On the side, make sure your WPA security is active on the router, cuz I don't know if it could've been shut off at any time since we started tinkering with it.

Anyways,
Do you have WiiConnect24 active?

I believe I do. Should I deactivate it?
Title: Re: Problems with Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on May 25, 2010, 03:13:03 PM
On second thought, you don't have to de/activate WC24.  It does not matter.

I found this and read a bunch other forum testimonies on the error:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/errors/results.jsp?error_code=11688&system=Wii&locale=en_US&action2.x=0&action2.y=0

From what I gather, 11688 is a high-traffic server issue, and indiscriminately affects more people than the other kinds of errors.  So, we did "good" to get to this point, but now it's at the mercy of the main network, which I think is getting overloaded (just imagine, many people not connecting the first time, so they learn to improve their router settings, improve their connections, and now MORE people are able to connect, and the servers still can't handle the additional load).  I experienced this with both Brawl and Kart in their first months, and my specific Wii/Router settings haven't changed in 2 years (using the LAN adapter).

So here's what's left:
Set your router and the Wii's security to WPA(any), and make sure they match.
Set your router's wireless channel to 2 or 10 (because Nintendo/other companies tell everyone else to use 1 or 11, so be different and stay off those peoples' channels)
After the above, try connecting at different times of the day to see if server traffic changed in your favor, including connecting with others here besides your friend.

I have a questions before doing those. My friend doesn't have his Wii on DMZ. We can NEVER play together, we always have to find other rooms where other people are hosting, and we join, thats the only way.

Could this be it?

From my experience, Wii users without DMZ/portforwarding make terrible hosts, and usually can't host at all.
