Title: Katchup: On Bun Or On Patty?
Post by: Stratos on May 15, 2010, 05:10:35 AM
I'm eating a burger and am finding it funny how I've always but it together with the condiments on particular sides. What say you all?

Does the ketchup go with the cheese?
Title: Re: Katchup: On Bun Or On Patty?
Post by: Stratos on May 15, 2010, 05:12:53 AM
With me yes. Katchup and sometimes BBQ goes on cheese which is directly on patty side.

I insist that it be spelled Ketchup... and no mustard; was that an option?

Too late; looks like someone beat me to it.

I went with I hate those condiments!, which is totally different than I like mine plain and boring...like my personality....

There are condiments other than those two so I made that as the 'other category'. :P

I really varies for me. At times I have Ketchup and mustard on my cheeseburger. Other times I put BBQ sauce on it. Other times still I have Ketchup,Mustard, and Relish. Some times I put Miracle Whip on it.

Ketchup and mustard (spicy brown stadium mustard if at all possible), and I put it right on my meat.

I don't think I have ever before seen anyone spell it as "katchup," that is quite strange.

I don't put ketchup on hamburgers.

Who cares? It all ends up in the same place.

You want a real controversy, ask about the order of making a bowl of cereal.
Cereal first, then milk, then spoon. Anything else is uncivilized.

I've heard of such barbarian behavior, but it's insane. I confess, sometimes I put the spoon before the milk.

I think as long as the cereal comes first you should be ok....

unless you put the bowl after the milk, then you got things all messed up.

I have done this a few times when I wasn't awake fully or it is really late. Otherwise I put in the Cereal,Then milk than the sugar, then any fruit then the spoon.

What if it's Frosted Flakes, do you still add sugar?
Title: Re: Katchup: On Bun Or On Patty?
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on May 15, 2010, 10:22:28 PM
I usually start with the bowl, then add the cereal, then the sugar (when necessary; Corn Flakes, Cheerios) then add the milk. That's usually when I sit down, realize I forgot my spoon and have to get back up to get it.

cereal > milk > spoon

bowl > spoon > cereal > sugar (if needed) > milk

I never forget the spoon.

Uh no I don't add sugar to already sugary cereal. Than again I don't really eat sugary cereal that much these days.

You microwave your cereal Caliban?

Or are we talking Cream of Wheat or oatmeal?

Sometimes I space out in the morning and start to pour orange juice into my cereal.

The 'katchup' typo was actually a similar tired mistake. I don't normally spell it that way but when BnM said something I knew it had to stay for LOL's sake.

What's the point of eating Corn Flakes or Cheerios if you add sugar?

Yes you do.  If you add sugar to your cereal you're eating sugary cereal.

I did this once, it was horrifying. Gave me an aversion to corn flakes for a while.

You know how it is, somebody buys some dry unsweetened corn flakes and you have to give them a zing. You can control  the sugar level this way too.

I'm eating a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch right now: cereal, milk, then spoon.

Ok let me put it this way vudu.I don't eat rediculiously sugary cereal with mounds and mounds of sugar.I typically only put one spoonful of sugar on non sugary cereal.

By mounds and mounds I mean like 10 spoonfuls of sugar added.

If I eat regualr Corn Flakes or Cheerios I like to put about 2 spoonfuls of sugar on it. It makes the cereal and the milk sweeter. I do not like the taste of plain milk.

I prefer putting high fructose corn syrup on my cereal because it forces my pancreas to process harder and faster.

There used to be Chex commercials where they would suggest that you would put the milk in first and "let the milk splash right through it."  I tried this once.

I was disappointed when the milk did not 'splash right through it'. They all just floated on the surface. :P

I eat corn flakes and cheerios without any sugar added. I never had a lot of sugar cereal when I was young so it's the norm for me. On occasion mo would let us get a box of sugar cereal and for desert after dinner we could choose to have a bowl of it.

I usually eat cereals like Quaker Oatmeal Squares or Honey Bunches of Oats.

Even adding a few spoonfuls of sugar won't equal the amount in certain cereals out there, plus cereals like Cheerios have more nutritional value.

My cereal preparation starts with grabbing a bowl and spoon. Next is either pouring in the oatmeal, or breaking up the shredded wheat biscuits. Then, I pour in the boiling water if it's oatmeal, or milk if it shredded wheat. After than, I drizzle on some honey. This part must come last, because if the honey is on the cereal first, the liquid might splash during the pour.

It's very exciting. Too bad it isn't broadcast on the telly, simply describing it doesn't do it justice.

I hate when you get a hamburger at a restaurant and they put the patty on top and the toppings on the bottom. They've called fucking toppings for a reason - thanks for completely destroying the bottom bun, cocksucker!

I noticed at FatBurger they turn the cheese burger upside down the cheese is on the bottom. Interesting solution...

That way the cheese acts as a barrier to protect the bun from the liquid seeping out of the patty.  That's one of the cardinal rules of building structurally sound sandwiches in general.

I prefer mustard on cheeseburgers.  I find ketchup redundant with the tomatoes and pickles.  Mustard provides a sharp counterpoint instead of blending in, and it makes the cheeseburger into a symphony of flavor, to reference Ratatouille.

Ever been to Five Guys? People talk about how awesome it is, and they're completely full of ****. It's a $5 Whopper, only greasier. The fries suck too. No matter what you do to it, a well done (you don't get to choose how you want it cooked) hamburger will always suck.

Took a minute for me to decide but i have soooo many variables to go by,

If I'm at a BBQ and burgers w/out cheese are being served then Catchup on the patty is a must or I just starve...

now if they are melting Cheese on the burgers then I put the Ketchup on top of the cheese and if mustard is available then it goes on the bottom bun....

If I'm at the crib then I'm going to give my self the works but it is still specific where the stuff goes.... If I'm using lettuce then I must have Miracle Whip(mayo is nasty) or its no lettuce and the Whip must be on the top bun, no exceptions. I like to add onions but I need hamburger pickles to fully enjoy either of them, again either both or none, and on that same burger mustard must still be on the bottom.  If the burger is bigger  than my fist then i must have poppy seed buns.

Some times i feel a little frisky and mix miracle whip with a little Catsup some relish and chopped onions and pretend I'm at Mc Donalds...... What?? this is a serious matter.......

I prefer a mixture of mustard and a1 on my burgers.

I also prefer sauteed toppings over fresh ones. Still, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, red onion and olives make damn good toppings.

Its a must that I have cheese on it as well and I always place the burger on top of it. If I have the option, I'll always pick something like butterkase, feta, or cheddar to give it a sharp tangy taste.

And burgers should always be prepared medium or medium rare.

Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip have their places. They are both very different flavours so I'm not sure why someone would choose only one. Personally, I like mayonnaise on warm sandwiches (like hamburgers for instance), and Miracle Whip on cold cut sandwiches (like turkey, ham, etc.). Furthermore, a potato salad made with a half cup each of mayonnaise and Miracle Whip is very tasty.

I've had a hamburger from Five Guys only a couple of times, but I thought it was better than any hamburger that can be gotten from a fast-food joint, even Fatburger.

I'm serious, Five Guys sucks. Ok it doesn't exactly *suck* - but it's just nowhere near as good as the people who worship that place say it is. It's edible, just no reason to go out of your way to get a burger.
Title: Re: Katchup: On Bun Or On Patty?

Mayo goes on the bottom of the top half of the bun.  It's thick enough, it doesn't soak into the bun.  Lettuce goes next - it'll attach to the mayo.  Then, tomato slices on top of the lettuce, so you can put your thumbs on the top of the bun as you flip it over to help hold the lettuce on the bun.

Now, on the bottom bun, you got your patty, cheese, then ketchup - one spiral ring (three loops wide).  Four pickles, not overlapping (unless they're big slices) and a small handful of sliced onions.

That's how you make a Whopper.

Sounds like In-N-Out Burger. I've not tried it but the fans are quite rabid about it and go on about it's 'secret menu' but several people I've spoken with have said it's not a big deal.

People have different tastes. You can't believe anyone who says a food is great anymore than you can trust someone who says it is terrible. The only option is to try it yourself and see if you like it.

Don't get mayo at Subway, get sweet onion sauce or honey mustard.
