 Globulos Party, from developer GlobZ, is a cool physics-based party game. The basic concept is simple. You use the stylus to direct your ball-like globs in 2D environments, and then you release them all to bounce around the area to complete various goals. This mechanic is used in 20 different mini-games, most of which are derivative of each other. They're based off of games that almost everyone should be familiar with, such as Tic-Tac-Toe, Ice Hockey, 4-Square, and Football. Still, they can be divided into two categories: games that involve scoring goals, and games that involve avoiding obstacles. While it is fun chucking the little fellas around, it gets mighty repetitive when you're playing a slight variation on each game.    


The single-player mode consists of one-on-one duels with the computer, and considering how repetitive each of the 20 games can get, it gets a little tiresome. Regardless of if you slightly change Soccer and call it Funky-Soccer, it's still practically the same thing.    


When you play the game with a friend in one of three different ways (same system, DS Download Play, Local Wireless), it is considerably more fun. The game shines in the multiplayer mode as you devise strategies to screw over your friend and lead your way to victory. This is pretty much the definition of the type of game that is fun in the same room and couldn’t get be replicated in a strictly online world. While the repetition limits this fun experience, it is still an entertaining game in multiplayer.    


If you have a DSi and you find yourself playing it around friends a lot, then Globulos Party might be worth the plunge. However, if you’re a solo gamer, there are much better single-player experience on DS and DSiWare.

           Everything runs smoothly and it is colorful and bright.

                   Sound:  5.0
           The sound effects of the creatures are cute, but they get annoying, much like the repetitive music.

                   Control:  7.0
           The only recurring problem with the controls is that sometimes it is difficult to fine-tune your shot. Aside from that, the stylus controls work fine.

                          Gameplay:  4.0
           The multiplayer makes up for it a little bit, but the single-player component is mind-numbingly boring. The game repeats a lot in general, and the multiplayer mode is the only thing that salvages it.

     


           Lastability:  4.0
           If you have a friend around, the multiplayer mode can entertain you for a while. While there is stuff to do in the single-player mode (20 games with multiple difficulty levels each), it just isn't enthralling. You can collect some things, but it doesn’t really get you anywhere.

     


           Final:  5.0
           Globulous Party is only fun when you have a friend around to play multiplayer as the single-player mode is tedious. If you have the opportunity to play with a friend, it's a lot of fun, but that’s about it.
