Title: WiiWare Super Meat Boy Lacks Additional Content
Post by: NWR_pap64 on May 03, 2010, 11:49:35 AM
Due to the platform's size limitations, Team Meat was forced to cut content from the game.

In the official development blog for Super Meat Boy, developer Edmund McMillen confirmed that the WiiWare version of the game will have content cut due to the service's limitations.

McMillen explained to a reader that "We are running into file size issues on the Wii (meaning we will have to cut some music and other things to make it fit). We are also not doing any online stuff on the Wii because we dont want to push the game back till next year, but these additions won't really effect the main game much at all."

Super Meat Boy is scheduled to come to WiiWare this Summer.

Looks like we're getting...

...a lean Meat Boy.

But good developers should be able to work within Wii's constraints!

I dare you to find one post on these forums defending the WiiWare size limit. If you can, go right on whining about people whining; if not, save it for a thread where someone actually disagrees with you.

How is this game running into file size issues?

This I have no idea. The game was originally a flash game on Newgrounds which was (pun intended) really meaty for it's file size, since Newgrounds has a file size limit rule for it's flash submissions.

Completely bizarre.

But that was Meat Boy. Super Meat Boy is the sequel.

Why not release the game in two parts for half the Wii Points?

Which share mostly the same graphics, just slightly more detailed.

I think I missed the sequal detail in the NP article about it.

To think, you'd have to go to Gonintendo to get comments like these. RawMeatHobo better watch out, they're becoming obsolete.

Does the 40MB limit include DLC?

Only slightly improved? They look a helluva lot more detailed than that found in the original flash game. I don't expect Super Meat Boy to look like pixelated crap when blown up to full screen on my monitor.

No, that is how Square Enix got around the limit for Space Invaders Get Even. They released the base game (2 levels and a boss battle) and the rest of the game as DLC. The total size of the game with the DLC was about 700 blocks (around 86MB).

They might be having some problems with their compression algorithm. Just look at a game like FFCC My Life as a King, does it not seem to have a lot more assets?
