Title: All Pokewalkers arent created equaly....
Post by: ControlerFleX on April 21, 2010, 11:10:05 PM
I have the wondrous opportunity to play alot of games with my son(he's 10) and we've been doing the Pokemon thing together ever since the FireRed and LeafGreen GBA releases. So of course we were both super excited for the HeartGold/SoulSilver games. I picked the less sought after HeartGold and he, the latter.
Now the Pokewalker is the new addition that has been all the rave. I go an a 3-4 mile run every morning at 0500 and you bet I take it with me(along with the baggage of having a pokeball strapped to my hip) and I get about 6000-6500 steps with mine on that run alone....but one day I grabbed my son's by mistake and I had 8653 steps???? I take the same route during the course of a week.
So with my Curious George instinct I took both of them together on the same run for the last two days and his always has about 2000-2700 more steps!!!!
Is mine defective? Is His? Plus his always has the random Pokemon appearing in his, I have yet for that to happen..(so I'm jealous)
I also spoke with two friends that also have the game but they both have SoulSilver(go figure) and they both say they average 15,000 a day!!!!
Does any one else have this type of disparity??? or am I the lonely soul that has the Gold....

EDIT: NEVERMIND THAT.
I didn't see the part where you took them both on the same run.

Try taking one Pokewalker in each hand and just shake them at the same speed, see what you get that way.

Or... hold them both in the same hand, to make sure they get the same amount of shakiness! =O

I actually counted steps with mine and was suprised how accurate it was. I went on a walk and counted 1200 strides and my pokewalker read 1217. Pretty damn close.
Maybe do some smaller tests like that where you actually count your strides. That could at least tell you which one is closer to correct.

That sounds better, not that I don't like TJ's and that guy's suggestions but this one is a bit more practical.
Too bad I only have two hands and I wont be able to count my toes while I walk around..... Only if i had something to count my steps......

you need one of those club clickers that the bouncers use at the door to keep head count.

I've actually got my own Pokewalker problem:
I can't unlock the "Across the Sea" route. To do it, supposedly, you need to make an international trade over the GTS. Two problems:
1) The United Kingdom doesn't count; 2) Everyone in Japan wants a Lv. 100 Darkrai or something for even a Lv. 13 Scyther
So apparently I'll never be able to unlock "Across the Sea." Sorry, but I'm not trading my Groudon for a Lotoad. Anyone have a solution? Anyone living in Japan who I could trade with?

Do you have access to a smartphone or media player that can run apps? There are free apps that can do this.
...Well they say a joke isn't funny if you have to explain it....
But I was inferring to my inability to count past 20 without my toes so how would I get to 1200, then I also referred to needing something like a pedometer when in fact that's what the pokewalker is.... :'( there goes my BET comedy special :'(
on the bright side that does mean that you're an awesome person MegaByte for even trying to H E L P O U T T H E S L O W L E A R N E R S L I K E M E :Q

If it makes you feel any better, I thought it was funny. But instead of worrying about accuracy, I think it's time to work out some 'sploitz. What can you do to make the Pokéwalker think you've taken more steps than you really have? Maybe you can try putting it in different pockets to see if certain places on your body affect it more than others. Maybe you could clip it to a bungee cord on your belt so that it gets extra bounces even after you stop.
Personally, I'm the type who would leave it in a paint shaker, if I had a paint shaker, or a Pokéwalker for that matter, but whatever.

I was going to say something about that, but decided against potentially insulting you.

My Pokewalker doesn't register steps when I shake it, at least not right away. I wonder if mine is defective too.

In my infinite wisdom and all around knownuthin', I have concluded my final results of Pokewalkerism......
People with SoulSilver are routinely happier people
If you use the clip, then you lose some steps. It likes a more unstable range of motion............ unless you clip it to your socks, then you up your steps by 15-20% I went from 6000+ steps to 8000+ on the same route.
People with SoulSilver tend to find more random items. I only surveyed 11 people but three of us has HeartGold and every body else always had random items, we only had complaints.
If you have a job where you sit at a desk for the most part, connect it to your sleeve.... you will be amazed or use a wrist band(sweat).... madd mileage.
Got a dog??? don't do it... they'll get it off and well...... this thing is built like a tank but don't pres your luck(NO WAMMIES!)
Happy hunting my friends.

My Pokemon never find random items, just watts.
I hate wasting watts trying to catch Pokemon, I have yet to encounter a Group A Pokemon. I almost always get Group C. Yesterday I kept trying to get a Duskull (Group B) on Winner's Path and it kept running away even when I got it down to 1 bar.

Dont know what to say bout the one bar thing, that's just bad luck but for the !!!! Pokemon, both me and my son usually need to have about 9000+ steps.
Gotta step-em . . . all?

They usually find items when I check the pokewalker while out and about. Maybe you could try it on your morning runs?
........wasn't going to do this but, funny story.
I was out on a run bout a week ago and I wanted to check how my lil bugger was doing and I was watching the far away animation it shows when its in motion and then I noti** CURB!! oooofff skerrrrr uh.....
Needless to say I try not to distract myself with poke"watching" while running, but I will stop and run in place the next time I'm on the road. Thanx!!

I love the poke walker. I calculate that unlocking Quiet Cave, including general Pokéwalker usage like catching and dowsing is the equivalent of walking from Perth to Melbourne (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=perth%20to%20melbourne&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl) following the roads.

Using watts on the DWSNing machine is a waste. It's a random guessing game where the HIGHEST chance you have of getting a item is 50% (if you miss on your first guess and it says that the item is nearby, that means it is in one of the two bushes next to you).

Unless you pick a bush on either end, then it's 100%, if near.

Why oh why did I think the poke walker was a waist? I just realized a few weeks ago I could get choice items and heart scales! Now I take it with me every where!

There are also several Pokemon that can only be caught using the Pokewalker (http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/pokewalker-pkmn.shtml).
