Title: What happened to DS Games detecting the GBA cartridge slot?
Post by: UncleBob on April 05, 2010, 12:44:36 AM
Has this feature been used in forever (outside of Pokémon and Guitar Hero, that is)?
Now, granted, I *know* the DSi/DSiXL doesn't have a GBA slot and that *could* have something to do with it.
I've been playing Wario Ware: DIY and enjoying it. To me, this seems like the *perfect* game to add something when you have one of the GBA titles (Twisted or the original Mega Micro Game$) in the GBA slot. Even if it's just a record, comic, or some sprite work. But *nothing*.
How sad. :(

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 detected the first game in order to provide an exclusive power up in A2.

I think WarioWare: Touched! used it too. It was already a rarely used feature, but I guess the huge success of the DSi put an end to any future use of it use of it since developers don't want to alienate DSi/DSi XL owners (although Activision didn't mind releasing the Guitar Hero On Tour games, which don't work on DSi and DSi XL systems).

I once dreamed that a DS game could have episodic content available as cheap, affordable GBA carts. Of course, this was all before digital distribution really took off.

There was the Rumble cart in Prime Hunters. Bit different to the use you are talking about though.

Advance Wars DS also used it with Advance Wars 2.
Overall, I don't miss the lack of use of the feature to be honest.
