Title: Thank you, Jebus!!
Post by: Stogi on March 23, 2010, 11:47:02 AM
This will surely be locked (add it to the tally) but **** ALL! This is history in the making and I love this so much. SO DAMN MUCH.
As a 22 year old about to turn 23 in the next month, I was about to lose my health coverage because I graduate college in may. Now I can stay on my parents plan for 3 more years! Best of all, my uncle can finally find insurance that won't kick him off for BULLSHIT REASONS!

I'm going to jump in and say that while it's a good thing this has happened, it's still nowhere close to what i was expecting. I was expecting something along the lines of the NHS where it's free (..at the point of use), not extending the insurance system out to everyone.
You can't put a price on your someone's health and I feel that this is a small step but nowhere nearly as historic as it's being made out to be.
I haven't said anything political!

Definitely not everything we were pitched on in the beginning, but it's a step in the right direction. A rather big step if you ask me.
No dropping you when you get sick!!! It's about time. I don't know how Insurance companies got away with that stuff for all this time.

Sick people aren't profitable in the long term. You don't see Nintendo targetting sick people with "Wii Sick".

Is that why Wii's are prevalent in hospitals?

Couldn't you just, like, get a job?

You can't get a job in the Obama economy.

New College Graduates To Be Cryogenically Frozen Until Job Market Improves (http://www.theonion.com/articles/new-college-graduates-to-be-cryogenically-frozen-u,17034/)
Quote
In a bold new measure intended to address unemployment among young professionals, lawmakers from across the political spectrum agreed on legislation Tuesday to subsidize the cryogenic freezing of recent college graduates until the job market recovers.

I think I should go make a dozen political threads. There seems to be no consequence to doing so.

I only want three things from Obamacare:
1) No caps on coverage 2) No denial for pre-existing conditions 3) They can't drop your coverage when you get sick
As a Cystic Fibrosis patient, these things are pretty important to me.

I'm kind of surprised Halbred didn't request the option to have his DNA infused with dinosaur DNA.

It's definitely a step towards fixing the flaws in the current system, but to me it doesn't fix the inherent flaw around the insurance system in the first place in that you shouldn't "actively" make people pay for healthcare that pretty much discriminates against those who cant get it for whatever reason. For instance:
Person A has X problem and costs $5000 a year insurance. Person B has Y problem and costs $100 a year insurance.
Is it really fair that A pays more because of an ailment that might not be their fault?

Dangerous territory there, Plugz. ;)
Don't read this: Is it really fair that everyone but A pays more because of an ailment that's definitely not their fault?

Why do I have to pay for my food and shelter?
