Title: Nintendo Continues to Dominate the Sales Charts

Nintendo continues to see huge sales in North America in the new year.

 January is generally considered a slow month in terms of sales, but Nintendo has once again managed to prove that they can continue to see huge numbers even in the new year.    

In an unsurprising turn of events, New Super Mario Bros. Wii continues its run in the top spot for another month, while titles such as Wii Fit Plus, Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Sports Resort continue to show off their great legs.      

Nintendo isn’t the only developer seeing big sales on Wii. Ubisoft launched Just Dance in December, and it has already turned out to be a surprise hit. Last month the game managed to crack the top 20, but this month it breaks into the top 10 with sales just short of 200,000 units.    

On the hardware front, Wii continues to be the top seller with the Nintendo DS following closely behind, with sales of 465.8k and 422.2k, respectively.      

The hardware sales for the month were as follows:

6.  PlayStation 2 41.6K

I was almost expecting the headline to read something along the lines of "Reggie lost his bet! He's running amok in the streets and punting everyone in sight! Run for your lives!"

I think the Wii would have actually sold much better, but it's out of stock in a lot of places because of December's fucking epic sales.

Nope. Nintendo has under estimated demand of Wii and NSMBW.
They both have consumers on a waiting list. So everyone better take a number.

I think even Nintendo had thought demand for the Wii would be slackening. Apparently consumers didn't get the memo...

It's probably better to sell out than to have excess stock.

It's probably better to have stock to sell than to run out, actually.  If you do build up an unhealthy amount of overstock, you can simply adjust for it in future production.  Selling out means losing sales.

Overstock costs storage space.

It depends on whether "excess stock" means "any leftover units at all" or "such an excess that storage costs become an issue," I suppose.  I took it to mean the former.

It's always good to have a little excess stock, maybe a % more.

But Nintendo being Japanese and all will probably like the "just in time" way of producing to exactly whats needed and any leftovers to them is bad and someone probably got the smack for it.
