Title: Epicenter Unveils Rock of the Dead
Post by: NWR_Neal on February 11, 2010, 06:11:51 AM
Typing of the Dead meets Guitar Hero in this off-beat music game.

Epicenter, the developers behind Real Heroes: Firefighters, are combining rhythm and zombies in their upcoming game, Rock of the Dead.

It is essentially Guitar Hero crossed with Typing of the Dead as you fight off ambling hordes of zombies using the fret buttons of the guitar controller. Each enemy has a specific button combination that will take them down, and you have to strum your guitar to lay down the track that will defeat them. The game even features bigger enemies that require you to play along with the music, which is more similar to the gameplay of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

Ideally, the game will require the guitar controller, but if Nintendo doesn't allow it, Epicenter has a standard control scheme on tap. However, they didn't detail it.

The game is expected to be about five hours, but branching paths and the cooperative two-player mode where players can compete for high scores hope to make it replayable.

There will be rock renditions of public domain music, as well as some Rob Zombie music for certain parts. Neil Patrick Harris will voice the main character, and Felicia Day, best known for her role in "The Guild," will voice the love interest. Harris and Day previously worked together in the Joss Whedon internet series "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog." The script was written the writer of The Witcher.

Published by Conspiracy Entertainment, Rock of the Dead is set for a late spring 2010 release and will retail for $30 or $40.

Rock renditions of public domain songs? I know they're on a shoestring budget but this really screams for some heavy metal.

NPH would like to remind you all that this game is going to be legen...

DARY!!!

Old memes aside, between the budget price and the cast list I'd day 1 this... but for the lack of a guitar.

This sounds very interesting. I actually just finished playing through Typing of the Dead again on my netbook the other day. I think it's funnier on the Dreamcast though, simply due to the character replacement models.

I might be interested in this game if I had Guitar Hero, but I don't.

I have a Wii Guitar controller collecting dust because after GHIII I moved my rock gaming to the 360, this game could get me to pick it up again.

A game about a dead rock? Hmm.

A game that would require me to break the pledge to play it? Double hmm.
