Title: Sony will win video game battle, says Yankee Group (from 2006)

This is a REALLY old article, but its so damned funny that it needs to be remembered.  :cool;

PlayStation 3 is due on retail shelves later this year after a delay disappointed many customers who expected it in stores in the spring. Microsoft, whose current Xbox lags the PlayStation 2 in sales by a wide margin, put the Xbox360 on sale last November, giving it a year's head-start on sales. By 2011, though, the Yankee Group report predicts that Sony will have sold 30 million PlayStation 3s, controlling 44 percent of the market, compared with an estimated 27 million Xbox 360 units, which would account for 40 percent of the market.

Nintendo is expected to stay in third place with 11 million Wiis sold, claiming 16 percent of the console buying market.

I hope this "analyist" committed Seppuku on himself out of disgrace over how wrong he was. :reggie:

So Nintendo has sold six times as much hardware as they predicted, and they still have a whole year to do even more.

Are these analysts just doing this for fun? If their predictions were important to someone, wouldn't they have figured out long ago that they were morons?

I trust the general opinion of gamers on sites like this more than I do these "analyists" who probably don't even play video games themselves, or understand what the hell they're talking about. Its obvious this guy was basing his prediction on the outcomes of the 6th generation of consoles.

This article came out only a few months before the Wii launched, but that should have been enough time for any intelligent person to sense all the hype and excitement that the Wii was generating ever since E3. Only an idiot could think the Wii was going to do even worse than the Gamecube did.

The GC sold, what, 22 million LTD? Yet this moron predicted the Wii would only sell half that number. 11 million???! WTF?

Are you sure that's supposed to be worldwide numbers, not just America?

30 million PS3s in the US alone?

Either way, the prediction was way off. Its actually the exact opposite of how things really played out because the Wii is actually a distant first instead of distant 3rd, and it is the PS3 in last place.

You can't spell "anal cyst" without analyst.
