Title: NSMB Wii Hits Ten Million Sold Worldwide
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 26, 2010, 02:35:02 AM
The "evergreen", when it comes to Mario, is money.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=20835

Last week the NPD Group reported that New Super Mario Bros. Wii had surpassed the U.S. lifetime sales of its 3D brother Super Mario Galaxy.  After roughly 45 days on the market, NSMB Wii had moved past Galaxy's 4.1 million copies sold with a tally of 4.2 million.

According to Nikkei (via Kotaku), the worldwide sales figure for NSMB Wii now stands at over 10 million copies.  Sales in North America have reached 4.5 million, while the title has sold over 3 million copies in both Japan and Europe.

Last year Nintendo President Satoru Iwata predicted that NSMB Wii could sell ten million units, and it turns out that he was right.  At this rate – 10 million units sold in 8 weeks - it looks like it will sell much more than that.

1.5 million needed to catch up with MW2, right?

If you combine all three SKUs of Modern Warfare 2, yes. The thing that NSMBWii has in its favour is Japan. With every region under control, it's only a matter of time before it overtakes in the race, so to speak.

He's talking about the Reggie Bet

NSMBW vs MW2 360 in the U.S.

NSMBW has to sell 2.1 Million (I think) in January NPD and MW2 has to sell nothing.
But you might want to check the sales thread to be sure.
It's not very likely to happen, but there have been reports of NSMBW being hard to find and Wii selling out in lots of places during this month.

He'll have to kick his own ass and take his own name.

He shouldn't be too worried though, since he hasn't been ass kickin or name takin in such a long time, I don't think he even remembers how.

10 MILLION.

My goodness. This game is destroying the universe and watering down your coffee with salt. There is no hope.

He was kicking plenty of ass (1 million new asses since Nov NPD) in Mario Kart last week.

Those asses had no names therefore they were no challenge. So to continue to kick nameless asses leaves him a little out of practice when it comes to kickin asses to take names that we want. We want some big names Reggie.

Call of Duty is a BIG name. We want it.
Final Fantasy is a BIG name. We want it.
Resident Evil is a BIG name. We want it.

In all 3 instances, all we have gotten was the impersonator or the retarded step cousin.

You want crap.

Resident Evil won't be anything special without Mikami.
Final Fantasy is either a spinoff of a spinoff, or a very long auto-playing HD Hallway.
Call of Duty, wow, keeping the integrity bar of FPS gaming and gamers themselves low.

These aren't names to take, they're names to poop on.  You're supposed to want names of new values that reinforce the significance of Wii, not names that try to pretend that Wii is irrelevant.  Open your eyes, you're blinded by bumpy maps and glistening brown.

Doesn't matter. Big Names are Big Names and Reggie didn't produce them.

What Happened to GTA on Wii? Reggie didn't deliver.
Where are the games from NOA and NST(is that company still around?)? Reggie isn't delivering.
He may be handing out ass kickings in Mario Kart Wii and on the sales charts with Wii____ and Something Mario Something, but there are alot of BIG NAMES not showing up for the party that Reggie invited them to.

Lol, when I read that I imagined it was being said in Tricia Takanawa's voice.

And now to Ollie Williams with the Nintendo Weather report...

To someone who likes Resident Evil, Call of Duty and Final Fantasy, the Wii IS irrelevant.  Relevance is in the eye of the beholder.  Something that matters to some can have zero importance to someone else.

Anyway, way to go NSMB Wii.  It's an awesome game and I want it sell.  Maybe we'll get a bunch of 2D platformers from the third parties for a change.  It would be better than on-rails shooters and mini-game comps.

So you want Reggie to bring Zangeki no Reginleiv to the US, eh?

Murumasa: Demon Blade might be a good place to start.
There are a few more 2D platformers for Wii already out there too.

A Boy and his Blob is also a fantastic 2D platformer (though slower and more puzzle based than NSMB Wii).

how could I forget Boy and his blob?
I'm still working on the 3rd world on that one.

"but there are alot of BIG NAMES not showing up for the party that Reggie invited them to."

Cuz they're not cool enough to stand among Mario Kart & Friends.

Murray's Matza?  A Boy and His Uncle Bob?  Stop fabricating imaginary 3rd party 2D games, Ian has never heard of these.

Ian is too busy imitating his avatar in Arkhan Asylum on his PS3 to care about 3rd party Wii efforts anymore.

Way to go Ian for coming up with something that I never would have thought of that would be amazing, yet has no legitimate chance of happening. Third parties copied Nintendo with mini games and fitness, but a second golden age of 2D platformers is probably too much to hope for. Now I'm depressed.

NSMB's success proves that traditional games can succeed just as well on the Wii as non-games. Hopefully turd parties are watching and taking notes.

LOL @ A Boy and His Uncle Bob. I keep wondering what you could feed said Uncle Bob instead of Jelly Bellies.

Mario is one game which truly does appeal to everyone, so this game selling well isn't indicative of your claim.
