Title: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood freed from Japan
Post by: TJ Spyke on December 22, 2009, 09:45:00 PM
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (which Konami previously said wouldn't be released outside of Japan because it is text-heavy and Nintendo wouldn't allow them to translate it) has been rated by the OFLC (Australia's rating system).
Also getting rated today was Ironclad (which was a Neo Geo game that was never released outside of Japan, but if you put it in a US system it would play and even display a English title screen):

Yeaaaaah, we'll see. Earthbound was rated by the US ESRB and nothing...will EVER...come of that. Until I see Rondo on a release schedule, I'm going to pretend it doesn't exist.

Lots of games have been rated that we haven't seen yet, including Nintendo 64 games Beetle Adventure Racing and Aero Fighters Assault. So unfortunately this doesn't really mean anything.

That is the ESRB, games that get rated by the OFLC have a much better track record of being released. It's not a guarantee, but they just tend to be more reliable for this kind of stuff.

Well it makes sense now. The PSP remake has been around for years and is out of print. The only copies I've seen in stores recently are those in the clearance sections for under $20.
The reason we haven't gotten the VC version yet is because Konami wanted to milk the sales of the PSP game as long as they could since the whole selling point of the PSP game was it's the first time Rondo was released out of Japan. Well now that that cow is bone dry, there's no more point in not bringing the original game on the VC over since it'll just make them more money and not eat the remakes sales.
It's similar to how it took so long for the classic Megaman games on the Virtual Console to finally come to North America even though they were out in Japan and Europe early on. Since Megaman Anniversary Collection was only released in North America, Capcom wanted to milk it's sales here as long as possible. But since it wasn't around in Europe/Japan, they had no problem releasing the early games right away since there was no sales for it too hurt.

When you combine this bit of news with this GoNintendo post (http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=108975) things get interesting. :)
