Title: What Wii Mario game do you enjoy most ?

So this should be an interesting poll. What you ENJOY more is not the same as BEST QUALIY. So think about it before you vote.
I gotta vote for Galaxy, I thought the gameplay was fresh and exciting yet familiar to anyone who enjoyed 3d mario games. I really do love NSMBW but it's just one great 2d mario, not really huge leap forward

Definitely Mario Kart Wii, I'm still coming back to it after over one and a half years later.
If you wanted to have all Mario games for the Wii then you missed a few.

Super Mario Galaxy does something I can't put to w'oids to jump and bound these planetoids brings jealousy to b'oids. Keep the slugging, karting, new-super-brothering there on the shelf my soul recoils from smothering their gameplay brings my self.

Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii and NSMBWii.
Mario games have the type of replayability that will make you play it over and over again, even after you have gotten everything.
This is what makes Nintendo king of Japanese game developers.

I picked NSMB but it and Super Mario Galaxy are two of the best games Nintendo has made in years. So I certainly am not crapping on Galaxy by not picking it. They're both essential purchases for any Wii owner.

I had to pick NSMBW over my beloved Galaxy because the co-op gives me oh so much joy!
I Adore both games but playing Mario with my family and girl friend have been second to none. I mean we really cooperate to get a task done and it just feels darn good. And I havn't laughed during a game like this since my first run through of Bad Fur Day. I remember one ghost house and my girl friend and I were engulfed by Boo's. She panicked so much as they zero'd in she couldn't understand when I was trying to explain to her the laws of Mario that if you just look at them they stop. They got so close and she bubbled out of there so fast I just had to crack up laughing. She abandoned Mario to die.

The NSMB Wii option probably needs to be split between co-op and single player.

I'm torn between NSMBW for the 2 player co-op (I hated 4player with a passion) or SMG for single player.

Yeah, playing with my brother, sister and another friend went allot smoother than I expected, mainly because they all knew how to play video games. Even with my girl friend in the mix things went well. We would just coordinate how to approach obstacles.

The main problem with the 4 player was always the one player that would either hold the screen back or push it forward to quickly. Or the player that is constantly standing in your way when you are trying to go in a certain direction.
It may be the players, but since the game doesn't have online for multi, those players are all I have at the moment. So I blame the game for my frustrations. I think it had more to do with me being 60% of the way through the game(with 2 players) and then having to start over(on a different Wii) to do 4 player with 2 new people that have never played the game.
I think 4 player however would be a chaotic in a good way for the coin battle but it was frustrating for regular play. I would love to see 4 player co-op in the same way shown in some of the Super Skillz videos done in real time.

That's something you have to work out socially as human beings.

Yes, this is the worst. I died so many times because my friend would just stand in my way the whole time. I remember all four of us were about to get crushed by a Fuzzy and we all died because I tried to run to the side to dodge and he just stood there blocking all of us from safety. Most 2D co-op games have the characters co-exist in the same space with the general assumption being that they stand next to each other. Can you imagine what Contra would be like if you were bouncing on your partner's head and blocking his path? NSMB Wii is the only game I can think of to have this kind of setup (though beat-em-ups like Final Fight often make it so you can accidentally hurt your partner). I really wonder why Nintendo went with something so non-conventional.
Though it is about your players. The friend of mine who kept standing still and blocking me? I watch him play single-player. He SUCKS. I would never describe myself as being good at videogames but compared to him I'm videogame Jesus. The guy would just miss the most routine jumps, jump face first into enemies, and appear to have no clue whatsoever how to time anything when dodging spikes and such. The reason he would block me so much is because his reaction time is so horrible that he would just freeze. I would watch him encounter something he didn't expect and his character would just stand there for like five seconds while some Bullet Bill would hit him in the face without him so much as attempting to move out of the way. And then he would get all whiney when he died like the game was screwing him. "Oh of COURSE this shell comes out of nowhere! Well, **** this level!" I found it very surprising because he has proven to be very good at some games. What I've realized is that he's only good at games that he owns and thus puts tons of practice time in until he has memorized the whole thing. I remember I had DDR Mario Mix and he sucked at it. Then he borrowed it for a few weeks and he just kicks my ass at it. I just don't have the patience he does to master a select few games but I clearly seem to have more natural skill.
Though if for some reason he is reading this I'll also point out that he is absolutely one of my closest friends and favourite people and like a brother to me. He just sucks at videogames. ;)

I've had a lot of fun with all of the choices, but Galaxy stands head and shoulders above the rest. Galaxy, to me, is easily the best game of the last decade and 3rd-best all time.

I was thinking about the fact that characters don't just walk past each other and exist in the same space. I honestly think that would not make the game any better. Maybe at first glance it would seem less frustrating, but there has got to be a key element I'm not thinking about that Nintendo chose to make the game the way it is. I'm glad it's like this and that what one character does absolutely affects what the others do.

The design choice my fine, I was just frustrated with not being able to accomplish what I was trying to do because other people would always be in the way. That is the way the game is designed and that's why I blame the game. I know the people I played with absolutely suck, but they don't play games the way I do. I wa just annoyed. Until I have a 4player cop-op that is fun, I will continue to dislike playing 4player. 2 player was fine, but 4 player made me want to twirl my controller around by the strap and hopefully knocl some people in the room out cold. GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!! [/internalrage]

No matter what there was always going to be the problem of someone lagging behind or going too far ahead and the deaths caused by that. That problem was present way back in Contra. The only true solutions for that is some sort of auto-splitscreen, zooming out infinitely to the point where one could see the whole level if needed, or online play. I think the first two options would create visibility problems for the other players and the third option would limit the game to online-play only which I feel would be a restriction.
With Nintendo, it's hard to say. I don't trust them like I used to so it could just be stupid design. But I have a feeling it's to encourage cooperation and communication between players. There are times where bouncing off a partner's head or throwing a partner can be beneficial. For Nintendo the positives of these actions may have been considered more important than the negatives. And they probably think that part of the whole game is that you and your friends learn to work as a team to complete the levels and not accidentally screw each other over. Seems a little too "perfect world" for my tastes (who has the time to develop such teamwork between three people that may not even live with you?) but I can imagine Miyamoto just being so delighted in the idea. People start off being individuals and failing but then they learn to be a team and succeed! Can't you just imagine Miyamoto talking about that?

I love that it's interactive. The four player mode would be too easy otherwise, and really makes it play differently than single player. If it didn't work that way, it would be almost the same as playing any other SMB game at the same time as someone else, only the TVs are next to each other or something.

Galaxy 2 could easily knock it off it's throne, but time will tell if that happens.

Multiplayer would be a complete throw-away mode in NSMB if you couldn't interact with each other. It would play exactly the same as the single-player game if blocks randomly broke around you and enemies sometimes died without you doing anything. The whole allure of multiplayer is playing togeter. This means working cooperatively (or competitively) to accomplish goals. You can't do this if you can't interact with each other.

Keep multiplayer to 2-D. 3-D Mario multiplayer just wouldn't work on a console. On the DS... makes you wonder what Mario 64 DS would've been like if they kept the wireless co-op. it could work, but it might not work.
Still, nice to mix it up with all the sports, parties and kart raci-HOLY **** BLUE SHELL AHHHHHH!!!

The 4p platforming minigames in Mario Party are just as hazardous as in New Super Modern Brethren Wii.
