Title: Gamecube Rentals
Post by: AlienJF on April 21, 2003, 02:57:24 PM
Recently the blockbusters near me have not been renting many gamecube games.  I have more than 8 blockbuster stores i can go to but none of them carry Skies of Arcadia, red faction 2, NBA 2k3, and alot of other games i want to play.  Most of them dont even carry Timesplitters 2.

Has anyone else had this problem, and can someone in New jersey tell me a better rental place?

thanks

A lot of us has, I don't even rent games anymore, I just buy them. I haven't stepped foot in Blockbuster since last year when I picked up a few used GC games for $20 a piece. Retailers and Rental places have not been treating the GC well.

Sadly the Blockbusters around me have been picking up this trend too.  They carry a huge selection of PS2 and Xbox games, but hardly anything for GCN.

i live in south cali, and the blockbusters here are also decreasing in gamecube games. but, we have another chain close by called hollywood video. there may be one by you, i dont know how far the store chain goes. they are picking up on blockbusters slack and have a pretty large gamecube selection. it almost rivals the PS2 section, which is about 2 rows long. they also sell just about every gamecube game made, and its where i buy all of mine. and most of the guys that work there are major nintendo fanboys, so they try to limit X-box's shelf space as much as possible.

i dont know if the other stores are also like this, but the one by me is. you guys would love the place.

The Blockbusters in my town totally suck as well.  If it wasn't for VHQ, I would be going nuts.  VHQ picks up the slack that Blockbuster leaves though, so it's ok.  They actually have Skies of Arcadia, Red Faction 2, and many others that Blockbuster completely missed.

My blockbuster is pretty good.

There's a little store down the road from me called "Farm Fresh." It's a little convenient store. But it has a little video section. They've always had the PSX games and N64 games, and the past few months they have gotten in 6-10 PS2 games, but last night I went to rent a DVD and they had their first XBox and GCN game: Batman: Dark Tomorrow! Woohoo! =P I might have rented it in the hopes that they would get some more GCN games, but I have a Zelda to play!! =D

The only video store within 35 miles of my house rents PS2 and Xbox games, but not Gamecube games. When I asked them why they didn't rent Cube games, they replied that the Gamecube only has a dozen or so titles, so it wouldn't be worth their time to even buy them. I haven't been back since, though I have considered printing out a list of available cube games and plastering their windows with copies in the middle of the night...

I'm lucky, I'm on a college campus, so Blockbuster has a very large selection of all 3 systems.  I look around to check and see if the Cube games get rented and there have been many times where the game I want is out.  Of course, that means there arent many of a certain game at times I guess.

i live in S. cal and blockbuster has the fewest of the 3 consoles for game rentals on the cube by far.
hollywood video has a couple different games but even fewer then the blockbuster and that's not saying much as blockbuster selection is pretty slim.

i have been considering going with an online rental place, a monthly fee and i can rent  any cube game ever created and keep it as long as i want and have anywhere from 2-5 games out at a time.

Christ, I will help you make the list if you want.  Give me your address, and I will pay for the paper to print out the list.  Idiocy like this must be stopped.

The selection of Gamecube games at my local Blockbuster and Rogers is really really slim.  Does anyone in Edmonton know where I can find a good GC selection in the city?  I'd especially like to rent Ikaruga, but don't know where I can rent it.

edit: I think we should all make an extra effort to rent more GC games.  Numbers and $ are the only way they will listen.

They can't possibly get any more rentals out of me, even with their limited selection.

My local video store called Marshall's Movie World carries the largest stock of n64 ive ever seen but carries about 20 total games between xbox and ps2. they have slim to none in the area of gamecube games. at blockbuster, its pretty good. i havent really noticed at my other local store, video event and i never go to hollywood video, but from what ive heard, its pretty darn good.

My local Blockbuster actually has a whole aisle dedicated to Cube game rentals.  The only problem is that they don't have enough games to fill it.  They literally have spaces between titles on the shelf that are like two games wide.  They have two aisles of PS2 and Xbox games that are completely full yet they can't even fill up their Gamecube space.  And of the titles they do have (which is slim pickings) they have like only one copy.  They have like SIX copies of DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball that are never rented out and they only have one copy of RE0.  They're not as bad as a place nearby called Movie Gallery which hasn't had a new Cube game since like October.  They don't even have METROID PRIME for rent.  And what really bugs me is that if you ask any of these places why they don't have a good Gamecube selection their response is usually "because we don't rent many Gamecube games."  Well DUH!  You guys don't have any titles to rent.  I, a paying customer, just asked about Cube games and would have rented one if there was a better selection.

Anyway if you live near Langley BC check out Willow Videogames for Cube rentals.  They have a great selection (though compared to everyone else that's not hard) and have at least three copies of any new title (except for stuff like Darkened Skye which they only have one copy of).  Major titles like Zelda have like 20 copies to rent.  Of course that's not too surprising considering they appeal to hardcore gamers so well they actually rented 3DO games back in the day.

One question... Why would you rent NBA 2K3 when you can pick it up for $10-$20???

I'll also mention that Hollywood Video has pretty much every GC game out there for rent.  Screw Blockbuster.

PS:  I went to our local "Great American Video" to return SW: Clone Wars and I mentioned that it was a very lame game; the clerks response to me was "The Gamecube is a lame system".  I'm never renting games there again!
