Nintendo News: Limited-Edition Wii Sports Resort Bundle Features Two Wii MotionPlus Accessories

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wii Sports Resort™ is all about getting multiple people involved in friendly sporting competitions. Starting Oct. 12, consumers will have even more incentive to get in on the fun when Nintendo releases a special, limited-edition bundle of the Wii Sports Resort game and not one but two Wii MotionPlus™ accessories, which bring enhanced precision to games.

The bundle will be available at a suggested retail price of $59.99. Typically, Wii Sports Resort comes with a single Wii MotionPlus unit at a suggested retail price of $49.99, and additional Wii MotionPlus units are available at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

“Shoppers are looking for value as we head into the holiday season, and this Wii Sports Resort bundle is a gift that players of all ages and experience levels can enjoy,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Best of all, it instantly gets multiple members of the household engaged in playing as soon as the package is opened.”

The new bundle will be available while supplies last at most major retailers.

Through the end of August, Wii Sports Resort has already sold more than 1.25 million units in the United States alone, according to the NPD Group. Nearly 2.9 million Wii MotionPlus accessories are in the hands of the public. That includes all those sold with Wii Sports Resort, standalone sales of 1.36 million and an additional 257,000 bundled with Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 10.

10 bucks off another WiiMotion+ which you will need for epic sword dueling or dog fighting action!

Man, I love the plane stuff in Wii Sports Resort. I could fly around all day. I hope a bigger game with the concept is made in the future.

I loved the plane exporation, Enner.  Not much of the dogfights, though.

However, this bundle is a great deal.  If I didn't already have the game, I'd buy it in a heartbeat hearing this.

Sign that Wii Sports Resort and Wii Motion Plus aren't selling as planned?

I doubt that's the case UB. It's a strategic thing for the holidays especially with the one-two punch with the Wii price drop and Wii Fit Plus coming up.

I remember when Nintendo didn't need strategy to sell product though.  They just had to get it into stores.

Sign that Wii Sports Resort and Wii Motion Plus aren't selling as planned?

The game hit a million copies sold in just weeks all over the world. It's still selling weeks after release, and MotionPlus alone sold very well in June, with the Tiger Woods bundle selling the most MP units.

I agree with Flames, this is mainly a strategic thing to make the game more appealing, especially with the price. And times have changed. They are now selling to a new audience and they must keep selling to them.

Wii + Motion Plus LE Bundle = $260

The modern "sword game system" just got a PRICE INCREASE.  Sly fox, that Nintendo.

Bad sales? Wii Play proves that it is more strategic then anything to get it in the hands of more people. It wasn't like people weren't buying extra Wii remoted before Wii Play but since it was a "game" packaged with a free Wii remote they were able to increase sales to amazing levels, probably more then any other next generation system in regards to controller sales. It is silly to think of it as a bad sign, it should be perceived as a great sign that Nintendo wants to get as many M+ out into the market as possible.

Not to mention you have to add in the cost of an extra Wii Remote and Nunchuk!  $320!  GASP!

I wasn't gonna go there, but now we're there!

Really, a year ago it was simply Wii + Wii Play + Nunchuk = $320!  Whoa!  The price drop never happened!

Wii + Wii Play + Nunchuk + Wii Resort Super Bundle = $380!  WHOA WHOA WHOA!

I think it's more like

Wii w/ Wiimote, Nunchuck & WiiSports($200) + WiiPlay w/ Wiimote($50) + WiiSports Resort w/ Motion Plus x2 Super bundle($60) + 2nd Nunchuck($20) = $330 Now

vs

Wii w/ Wiimote, Nunchuck & WiiSports($250) + WiiPlay w/ Wiimote($50) + WiiSports Resort w/ Motion Plus($50) + 2nd Motion Plus($20/$25) + 2nd Nunchuck($20) = $390/$395

Now that makes this game a little more enticing, I might buy it if I can find one of those bundles. Does anyone have any idea how large the production run will be?

Not enough to last beyond this holiday shopping season, I think.  Some customers might go Wii-crazy and grab this along with a Wii Fit Plus copy for their holiday fun.  It's the right time to bring these products to the public's attention, showing off Wii This and Wii That, not to mention Mario.

The PR states that the bundle will be in retail "while supplies last" which mean Nintendo may do enough of a big shipment for the Holiday, but won't restock it once its gone. Unless, of course, the demand is really, really high.
