Konami has recently released new games classic Gradius and Contra franchises for WiiWare, under the ReBirth label. According to a new ESRB listing, the next ReBirth title will be Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth. The listing describes the game as a 2D side-scrolling action game where you fight against monsters such as skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats in Dracula's Castle.

While there are no additional details, the title suggests that the game might be a remake or follow-up to Castlevania: The Adventure, which was released in 1989 for the Game Boy.

I wonder if this is IGA's new project, since the console game appears to have been taken away from him.

The ReBirth games have been made by a Japanese company called M2 (http://www.mtwo.co.jp/) so I highly doubt IGA's involvement.

Edit: M2's website translated in English (http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mtwo.co.jp%2F&sl=ja&tl=en&history_state0=) looks like they also do a lot of VC ports, retro ports to PSP and PS2, and Fossil Fighters with Red Entertainment.

It seems strange that they would go with a Game Boy game nobody has ever heard of. I guess they wanted to give it another chance to shine.

Why spend the time and money on creating something new when they can just dress up and repackage something we already decided we didn't want?

"Oh you don't like the liver I made for you huh?"

"maybe you will like some of this Pâté instead?"

I sincerely hope not.  The original Castlevania Adventure was pretty bad--play controls, boring levels, and there weren't even sub-weapons!  However, the sequel--Belmont's Revenge--was pretty sweet.

Isn't this the true KAN-NON game that Lamer of Innocence failed to undo?

VICTORY FOR THE CLASSICS.

The Castlevania Adventure is a terrible, terrible game. A remake can only improve it.

Maybe they'll get around to Metroid 2: ReBirth now.

That would be pretty neat actually, I know there's a good game in there somewhere.

Link's Adventure needs a rebirth.

Anyway, I don't think this'll be much of a remake, more a game that just conveniently uses the story spot of CvA to avoid needing to deal with the mess that is the Castlevania timeline.

It would be good if it was Iga.  He needs something to do, and I don't like the look (and especially the sound) of that Contra remake.  It would be interesting to see an old Castlevania game remade by Iga; whether he turned it into another Metroidvania or didn't.

That will never happen.

If you mention Zelda II to the Zeldtards, they might combust into fan-rage.

Just use the Castlevania: Rando of Blood PSP engine, re-work for Wii/DS, and there, Castlevania remake a-go-go. Iga doesn't need to supervise them. I would like the artwork by Akemi Kojima(sp?) made for the remake in question.

Link's Adventure needs a rebirth.

Link's Awakening is perfect as it is.  What could possibly be improved?

I said Adventure, not Awakening.

Maybe the idea of this is that it's a compromise between old and new.  The execs want a remake for the obvious reason that it's easier to do than coming up with something new.  The devs want to do something more creative.  And of course there is that segment of the market that doesn't want to buy remakes.

So if you remake an old obscure game you get the benefit of not needing to come up with something new, but having something obscure enough that the devs can feel free to thrown in some of their own ideas as well.  And since most of the buying public has never played the original game it's almost as a fresh as a brand new title.  It can "pass" as a new game.

That would be awesome. The top-down view Zelda games have gotten kind of stale.
