Today Nintendo announced their next channel for download in Europe.  The "Today and Tomorrow" channel supports up to six users and plays the role of a fortune teller, with daily updated fortunes detailed into five categories: love, work, study,  communications, and money.  By registering their Mii and their birthday, each user will begin receiving fortunes each evening.  The digital sage will also supply you with lifestyle tips, meal suggestions, and even tell you how you will get along with your friends and family.

The channel will be launched on September 9th on the European Wii Shop channel.

There is no word yet on a North American release.

FREE TODAY AND TOMORROW CHANNEL LAUNCHES FOR Wii        8th September, 2009 – Check your daily fortune and get hints on relationships, activities and even the types of food that your horoscope recommends with the free Today & Tomorrow Channel, launching on Wii in Europe on 9th September.

Your friends and family can join in the fun, as up to six people can take part by registering their Mii character and date of birth. You will all then receive a detailed daily fortune in five categories: love, work, study, communications and money. The next day's fortune is displayed every evening, so you can check ahead of time before a big day.

As well as providing your fortune, the Today & Tomorrow Channel can also give you lifestyle tips, including activities that can improve your daily life and suggestions about what to eat, all based on your horoscope. You can even check the compatibility of different Mii characters for the day. Use this feature to see how you will get along with your friends and family – could be useful if you are planning a long car journey!

Offering "tips for relationships" to Wii gamers? Now that's funny

I'm surprised that we haven't gotten that channel that lets you order food and have it delivered to you house. I guess it's a lot hard to do in the US though since Japan is pretty small.

Same reason Club Nintendo didn't materialize sooner and why we hardly get Nintendo's niche games.

I'm surprised this made it out of Japan. This made more sense there than in any other country, but I thought it was neat.

Plenty of people read their horoscopes daily so why not make the Wii become even more a part of the daily routine?

A fitting megaton for 09.09.09 :P

I, for one, fully trust Nintendo with guiding me through the rough patches of my relationship.

Make sure Wii Motion Plus is securely attached, then proceed to swing the Wii Remote.  Large movements will result in stronger attacks.

I'd download it.

Just like my hero, Chris Breezy.

10 years since Dreamcast. Who could have predicted back then what is happening today ?

To think, all Sega had to do was duct-tape two Saturns together and release a bunch of non-games, and they could have taken down the PS2.   ;)

Sega can't even sell games to its own fanbase.

What I'm wondering is...why doesn't Sega re-release the Dreamcast?

I mean, why not?  Retro is all the rage, and there's a groundswell of people that LOVE the Dreamcast.  Heck, there's a new game coming out:

Make a Dreamcast 2, refresh the hardware a bit (remove the on-board modem in favor of a CAT5 jack, add a small hard drive maybe) and sell the thing for $50 USD.  Seriously, I'd buy one.

I'm not sure how many people would buy one.

If they had a way to distribute software, they could give it a shot.  You're not going to convince Best Buy to start stocking DC games again, so they'd need to go digital, with a DreamCast App Store.

It's not a licensed game though. The Genesis got an unlicensed game in 2007/8 and even the Atari 2600 still gets the occasional unlicensed game.

Sega continued selling new Dreamcast systems in Japan until like 2006 or 2007 (on their website). The market for Dreamcast games is so niche though that it would be difficult to even make a profit and you would probably have to pay retailers just to carry your games.

Could Sega choose to license the Dreamcast tech out? Maybe, they let Majesco sell new Dreamcast systems earlier this decade. I don't see any stores carrying the games though.

They could call it the DreamcApp Store. Awesome.

First app up on DreamcApp = an app that makes farting sounds.

Welcome back Dreamcast!
