Title: New Space Thread
Post by: ThePerm on August 27, 2009, 02:24:50 AM
The old thread got locked because of plain stupidity. So can't bump it.

Well with further research it turns out a combination of Colonizing both Mars and Ceres is a better strategy. Ceres is farther away but actually takes less time to travel to because its solar rotation is faster. Also, its basically made of Water Ice and Rock, it is roughly the size of Argentina. There should be a colony on both mars and Ceres. The Ceres mission should be to farm asteroids and comets for resources and direct them to The Mars Colony, and manipulating ceres so that it is a larger more habitable planitoid. Imagine a constructed planet like the death star :P
I wonder how prefabicricated buildings would fare if they were constructed in an ever increasing gravity. Unfortunately more people know about mars than Ceres. I think thought it would be better to travel to Ceres as a step to planetary colonization, but than again more is know about Mars. I just wish the human race would get all ambitious again.

How about we first get ambitious towards our planet.

Hell No. We gotta abandon the rock as soon as possible.

If it were that easy there'd be less drug addicts.

I don't know why you're all talking about this solar system, we've only got like 5 billion years before the sun goes nova, we have to think much bigger than that.

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn13748-stephen-hawking-calls-for-moon-and-mars-colonies.html

During the 14-1500s loads of people fled Europe for the New World, over crowding was a main cause(before the plagues), this time when taking over Mars and the Asteroid belt there shouldn't be conflict in the same ways there was. In fact I would imagine things would get pretty easy. The best way to take care of our planet is to get half the people off....Europe is pretty nice right now....actually there is 750,000,000 people in Europe....imagine if there was billions of people there?

And how do you expect the world to pay for it? From where?

What if we find life on Ceres?  Should they be dealt with in the same manner as our forefathers acted?  And if they were stronger than us and demanded trades in exchange for land, what could we trade?

That's a pointless line of discussion; there's no life on Ceres.

That we can detect.  Could be invisible, or able to shield their planet with a giant forcefield that fools our equipment.  They could look just like us, only smarter, and of course, adhering to a different religion, a religion which of course is, more superior and accurate than any of ours.

Is it your mission to turn every thread on this forum into a big stupid pointless argument?

Eat another d$$k dude.  Read the thread.  My post was not the first one to make a silly point.  Not my problem if you're too much of an fat ogre to play along.

Why should we play along when it is a pointless arguement?

I wish you would.  I'd rip that thing right off and proceed to swallow you whole.

I say we don't even respond to D Average or just report him.

Anyway back to the topic at hand. I think that the exploration of space is an important thing and we should try to colonize a planet. I think Mars would be a good place to start.

Personally I think we should start on the Moon. If we can't set up a Lunar base/launching station then how the hell are we gonna get set up on mars?
If we could set up regular travel to the moon and use the Moon base as a launching point for further space exploration, not only will we learn alot about building off planet, but we can mine the moon for materials and launching from the Moon to Mars will not use anywhere near as much fuel.

money is a rationing system for resources, so if your resources constantly kept growing the value of the money would significantly dwindle, and resource return would equal more than resource lost. Basically its a gigantic real estate venture. You could do way more with a fresh piece of land than you can something inhabited. Humans could use up a lot more land on Earth, but in the process we'd commit genocide on loads of animals. Africa is a continent with untapped resources, but at the same time too much damage has been done already, and it would be better to off and leave it alone than tamper with it. However, with enouh money http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_City_1000 one of these could be built and that would have minimal environmental damage, and a positive social effect.

Perm, if you wrote science fiction, it would just be categorized in the fiction section of any library, bookshop whatever. Possibly mythology.

i don't write sci fi yet, but i do have a 57 page comedy script :P

Actually the Sky City( 3,281) isn't that crazy of an idea. Its only like 597 more than the Burj Dubai (2,684 ft).

Burj Dubai is stupid though. Dubai is having a giant penis contest that no one else was even interested in entering.
