Title: Wet 360/PS3
Post by: D_Average on August 23, 2009, 01:17:05 AM
Me like. Played the demo today through the Euro PSN store. Its a bit shallow with some rough edges, but the slow motion gun maneuvering reminds me of a cross between Kill Bill and Viewtiful Joe. Plus, any game based off Eliza Dushku is an obvious must play (sorry Sarah (http://www.n4g.com/gaming/News-212888.aspx)). Should be a decent rental/guilty pleasure.
Anyone else get their hands on this character yet? (http://www.wallpaperez.info/wallpaper/games/WET-Ruby-1221.jpg)

Dunno, there's no 360 demo so I'll wait for reviews before making a decision (and obviously a pricedrop before buying anything). I don't think that A2M has a very good reputation and neither does the Wet brand.

I have played the demo. It was fun in some parts, but walking around with the character needs some tweaking.

Ah, I had issues with the character movement as well. Normally, when you want a character to turn around, she turns around in place before moving in the direction. However, in Wet she moves in the direction she's facing and turns. It feels unnecessarily rough and imprecise.
Then again, that seems to be in line with the grindhouse theme of the game. Speaking of which, the film effect that is on all the time started to hurt my eyes near the end of the demo.

Film filters are really an annoying fad.

I liked it. And its only in a handful of games, but I can see why so people would not. What really sells the game for me is the presentation. Its just a shame the controls and camera leave a bit to be desired.

I tried out the demo the other day, and I literally did a double-check upon first glancing the menu to make sure I hadn't downloaded some previously-unknown PS3 port of House of the Dead: Overkill because it looks just like it. Same grindhouse look, film filter, etc. The thing is, the way that Wet controls it probably wishes it was on-rails because those controls are horrible. I'd try to do things like the double-shot double-kill as the tutorial would tell me to do it, and it just wouldn't work. After about a dozen forced-reloads after failing that, I just randomly tapped the buttons and sticks and managed to do it. The game just feels like someone tried to marry Tomb Raider's gunplay; somewhat Mirror's Edge's controls; and House of the Dead: Overkill's style and it's just meh. That's my impression of the demo, anyway.

Agreed. I kinda like the way the game looks and it has Eliza Dushku as the lead character's voice. But honestly, the controls are TERRIBLE. I wasn't able to actually aim where I wanted to, this bullet time effect isn't welcome here either. Very meh, I was expecting something better.

Yeah, its a shame about the controls, could have been a solid game. The shooting especially, when not in bullet mode, its basically useless. Oh well, I'll still give it a rental, as I liked the different environments, the bizarre red/anger mode, and most importantly, I get to stare at a character who resembles Dushku for several hours.

The moment where she's Wet (when everything is bloody red) is so totally a Killer7 moment. I loved that about the game, and I also liked the car chase.
I think I might get this game because EB has this promotion for it where if you preorder the game you get $10 off its $59.99 USD.

Wow. Somehow I forgot about that part. It was totally bada$$. Everyone should play the entire demo just to try that part. Its up there with the Uncharted chase scenes, but the non bullet time shooting holds it back.
What I'm wondering is, if I ever meet Dushku IRL, I'm wondering if she'd be more impressed if I've played her game or she'd think I was lame. I'm sure play it, but I'm curious how many trophies or achievements she'd get.

Rented this last week. Overall, I'd give it a 3/5. Its a classic case of controls ruining the fun. You constantly feel like you're fighting them (as well as the camera). Given the amount of energy that went into casting voice actors, creating a new IP, and some decent cut scenes, my guess is they ran out of funds and just rushed this one out. Had the controls worked fluidily, it would have been a 4/5. Damn shame. We'll probably never see a sequel. I really liked the main character. I'll take her over Lara Croft any day. Hot, mysterious, aggressive, and sassy. She kind of reminded me of a hotter version of the girl from LA Ink.

All I know about this game is hot chicks, zombies, and the fact that it has the song Chinatown Hustler by The Notorious MSG, which is AWESOME.

Well I didn't figure the game was any good, but just the fact that the song is in the game is pretty awesome.

That song is fucking hilarious, and I can't get it out of my head after a few days lol.

All their songs are classic, and they're pretty cool dudes in real life too. Gave my friends and I a bunch of free merch at the last show we went to, because we've seen them a few times, plus they're hilarious even when you're just talking to them.
But there I go derailing a thread again. Luckily this time it sounds like the game in question isn't that great.
