Take your game farther by using these codes.

EA has taken a new approach to game content with Madden NFL 10 by allowing users to unlock additional modes with codes after they've bought the game.  Today EA announced these codes and their corresponding feature unlocks.

For more on the Wii version of Madden NFL 10, read Neal Ronaghan's recent review.

I still think that it's lame you have to input these codes to unlock three modes. I'm surprised EA didn't sell these as DLC considering that EA has started selling cheat codes as DLC.

I see the logic and I don't at the same time.

EA/Tiburon/EA Sports was ready to axe all three modes because they weren't going to be able to update it with the brand new interface. That makes sense, transforming something like franchise into a whole new interface probably takes a good deal of time, especially if you want to do it right.

As a consolation, they decided to put these in the game under the "classic modes" label. Of course, they had to screw up a perfectly good consolation prize by putting it behind a code.

It just sucks because this is the only major blemish on what is otherwise a fantastic game.

You have to enter a code to unlock Franchise mode? That's the main mode of the game. Lame. It's almost as bad as the crap they sell as DLC on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 versions.

I don't understand this at all.
If the content is available right when the game is released and for free no less, then why even create this whole process of having to acquire and enter a code?

I'm assuming they had other plans and realized that it was a horrible idea.

What good are hiding things behind codes if they go public so soon after launch?

I tried to get a decent response from a PR rep about this, but all I got was "the codes will be out soon!"

Might have been interesting if you had to puzzle out the codes through clues left throughout the game.

Maybe we'll get that in Professor Layton Football

IMO the game should be rated by assuming the user will not know these codes.

Obviously, I don't.
I do see your point, though. I wrestled with that during my review. The icing on the cake for me is the fact that the new stuff is very strong and even now, I haven't done anything in Franchise outside of checking it out for the review.
