As for Miyamoto's appearance, the Mario creator took the stage to announce a "Nazo no Murasamejō" mode in Samurai Warriors 3. Never released outside of Japan, Nazo no Murasamejō, or Mysterious Murasame Castle, is an early Famicom Disk title developed by Nintendo EAD and taking place during Japan's Edo period.
Though most U.S. gamers aren't familiar with Nazo no Murasamejō, it's popped up several times in Nintendo's recent "fan servicey works", as Hardcore Gaming 101 notes, with its main theme showing up in Super Smash Bros Brawl. and its disk included as a treasure item in Pikmin 2.
You can see video of the 1986 top-down action/adventure game, which shares a lot of similarities with the first The Legend of Zelda (also a Famicom Disk release in Japan) in its presentation, below:
As you can see, this looks very different from the traditional Samurai Warriors experience. I wonder what this mode will entail?
As with Capcom's recently released Monster Hunter Tri for Wii, Samurai Warriors 3 will support a "standard controller", though it's unclear whether that will replace or supplement motion controls. The game is expected to release in Japan this November, with a playable build debuting at September's Tokyo Game Show.

Apparently the boss from the Murasame game is THE PLAYABLE CHARACTER. Witness how he uses the POWER OF FIST in the 2nd screenshot.
I guess it's an opportunity to pummel Samurai Warriors enemies with a magician.

I wonder if Mysterious Muramase Castle will be included in the North American version of Samurai Warriors 3.

Why would they remove the mode? I doubt it includes the ROM of the original.

I counted 41 red bars over enemy heads. Did you see my comments for the pic if you put your mouse over it?

The Wii isn't THAT weak, it's a myth 3rd excuse makers have been perpetuating to excuse their lacking performance. Demon Chaos for the PS2 had thousands of enemies in play simultaneously and while that definitely involves massive trickery and combat felt more like mowing the lawn than fighting it did run smoothly.

Looks promising.
Though I must say that I've played games like this in the past and they tend to be fun for 15 minutes and become horribly repetitive after that. The game design of "Mow down thousands of wimpy enemies and a few stronger ones here and there" ultimately goes flat after not too long.

Blame the fact that it's a melee game, it never got old in Earth Defense Force (but maybe that's because even the wimpy enemies can chop off a major part of your health if you aren't careful on any serious difficulty)

And it somehow manages to look WORSE than the various Musou games on PS2. Awesome.

I think it's the HD Brown aesthetic they're trying to push. It's Wii, yet mature, Koei thinks.

Well, it makes sense for playing SNES games on the thing.

That controller looks like somebody lopped off the middle prong of an N64 controller.
Anyway I'm glad there's going to be a Nazo no Muraknamraekmas Whatever mode. If there is one series other than Zelda that could benefit from a slicity control scheme and one that could be brought back from it's grave in full Samurai glory, that game definitely is it.
