Title: Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on July 22, 2009, 01:40:23 PM
Sega continues to support Wii with mature games.  This looks like a dedicated Balance Board title that's not about snow nor fitness freaks.

Monkeys, balls, and bananas are all references to mature subject matter.  Discretion is advised.

A year and a half for a balance board game? It's like the N64 all over again

I think it's safe to say that the balance board was MADE for this game.

Give me balance board monkey target and I'll be one happy bastard.

I'm wondering if they will continue the convoluted story that began in the second game. Baby is AiAi and Mimi's kid who followed Dr. Badboon from the future to help make sure he didn't break them up and prevent Baby from being born.

Magical spell is Ei Ei Poo!!!

This sounds like something David Gotterman would write.

So this is going to be at the Nintendo world store this Saturday.

Is anybody going to go?
They are going to have tourneys and prizes at the Nintendo world store launch event.

Let me know if my preemptive pessimism is warranted

Sorry, it might have been backlogged.  I'm not going to jump the gun and say I'm part of the "3rd party solution" because my resulting lack of discussion certainly contributes to allowing the buzz surrounding a game to die quickly.

Friday may hold some possibilities.

Hey no need to get negative, I just wanted some info on the game.

Alright here is some info.
This game supports the Balance Board. If you don't want to use the Balance board than you can use the Wiimote and nunchuck. There is also an option for co-op play. One person can use the wiimotes IR pointer to blast obsticles out of the other players way. The second player will use the Balance board to guide their monkey around.
There are minigames. I think I remember somewhere that there will be 27 minigames. I'll finish this post once I find out more info.

Just quickly sharing info before I resume sabbatical,

- No "main game" standard multiplayer; no taking turns, no splitscreen SEGAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
- Menus utilize the IR pointer for navigation THANK ZEPHOS
- Co-op takes the main game stages and plants obstacles in the field.  One player surfs the board, second player uses the Remote as a light gun to destroy the obstacles.  9 rounds per clip, unlimited reloads.  Doing both by yourself is crazy challenging.
- Music is awesome, I like boarding to it.
- Boarding is difficult for fine movements given our bodies' obtuse movements; one's pace is slower to achieve carefulness; difficulty curve through the early stages feels justified and tailored to Board play; great challenge.
- Didn't try Wii Remote controls.  Didn't buy the game for such gameplay.
- Main game includes "Marathon Mode."  Play 30 stages in succession.  Stage intros and Goal animation/replays BS are eliminated.  As soon as you cross the Goal, the screen fades to the next stage (about 4sec transition) and you're immediately playing (some cases it's like hitting the ground running).  Enjoyable, continuous play.  3 sets of 30 stages available.
- Visuals and audio are top-notch monkey stuff, as usual.
