Title: Any Chance of Ds Review Internship?
Post by: jrlibrarian on July 02, 2009, 10:07:20 PM
Hey Nintendo World Report Staff Members,

I know that the "Work for NWR" link has been taken off the front page, but I would still want to work for this website. I had my reviews ready, but I still had to fill out the information part of the application. Is it possible that you could reply to this thread, read the reviews and information I will then send in, and possibly consider me for a one to two month internship? I only have a DS and a 360, so I will not be able to do anything for Virtual Console or Wii titles, and I am opposed to anything rated higher than T.

Thank You!

I really hope you don't get signed on as staff jrlibrarian.

I have no strong feelings either way regarding whether you get signed on as staff jrlibrarian.

Thanks for the vote Maxi.

Also Dasmos, I'm just wondering why you think that I should not be a staff member, although I think that it's either the no-Wii fact or that I don't play rated M games.

I think it's more likely attributed to your avatar.  Get a transparent background on that bad boy!

Thanks.

I had completely forgotten that I had that avatar.

I really hope someone looks over your work before judging you, jrlibrarian.

Ok.

Tomorrow or Monday, I'll post those reviews and put the link in this thread.

You can always just send the links directly to jobs [at] nintendoworldreport.com.

I've got something I'd like to submit.

However, the jobs email isn't active anymore, apparently.

There's a Submit News link in the upper right corner of the main page.  Submit your stupid review there.

Looks like someone likes me enough that he doesn't want me to join the staff and forever leave the forums..!

Maybe I should reconsider.

Edit:  I did things vudu's way.  I'm surprised it's not up on the site yet.  A little disappointed, too.

You really need to ask if he got the gig? Of course he didn't, not even NWR staff are that stupid.

Was it supposed to be down?  Would my fake NSMBWii month-old review be treasured if I re-sent it in?

It's not mentioned anywhere, but if anybody is interested in helping revive and run our radio station, please send in your application.

Actually, I might.  Can you give us a quick run-down of the responsibilities?

Would it be one of those dull, constantly streaming things, or could I just have a regular live podcast-like show where people can call in and we talk about predetermined events and anything that comes up?

Well, you'd have to maintain the playlist for the constantly streaming aspect.  I think we'd be open to a regular show as well, but music maintenance would be the primary responsibility.

So essentially, I'd need to track down video game music, upload it to some part of NWR's server, and have to learn the technical stuff of getting it to play?  Since this is a little different, but something I'm interested in, how many hours of music would you say would be good amount, and how often would a new playlist be expected?  I really am serious when I say I'm interested, but I don't want to sign up for something far over my head, then disappoint everyone.

Right.  It's mostly automated, so music collection would be the important part.  I'm not sure how often the old playlist was updated, but I think monthly or biweekly is reasonable if the playlist was long enough (say something like 10 hours - a day's worth of music).  Of course, you wouldn't have to replace the entire list with every update, so it's not as much as it sounds.  Having a good mix of new releases and classic music is best.

All right, sure.  I'll bite.  What do I need to send in to apply for this?  It's not the normal writing job, so I wouldn't think a review would do.

Last question:  Do I need to worry about copyright?  Would it have to be fan songs, and things along that line, or could I use things ripped from games in the playlist?

Edit:  Well, I sent in an application.  I didn't attach a review, but rather spoke about what I wanted to use the platform for, and what help I'd need to get started.  I've been thinking I've been posting on the forums too much lately, so I'm sure all the forum members will be happy to hear I'm making an actual attempt to become some sort of staff.

Also, if anybody is interested in the Staff Artist position, at least graphics design, and even better if you can also do site design, please let us know, and send in samples of your work.
