This is the guy that directed the MK movies and TV show. He's suing to retain some portion of ownership of the MK franchise on the basis of it being "far more a creation of Thresold and Kasanoff than Midway," which of course is hilariously absurd. You might want to read the actual legal documents included in the link for more gems.
I got one of my first tastes of gaming journalism by being in on an interweb chat interview with this guy while the MK Annihilation movie was in production. I think me and my e-pals concluded that he was kind of a weirdo.
"stock characters" - lol

This lawsuit will get thrown out. Besides the fact that the second MK movie sucked donkey-balls (and performed like it) and the fact that most people probably don't even know there was a MK TV series, the the movies are just stories based on the games.
Midway provided ample backstory for the characters and the universe, far more than you would expect from a fighting game.

MK Conquest was actually a pretty cool show. I'm pretty sure I saw some nipple in the first couple episodes. Paul W.S. Anderson directed the first Mortal Kombat, btw, not this jerkoff, he was the producer though...but producers...really don't do much.

You figure this would be a pretty easy case to resolve.
Mortal Kombat arcade game copyright 1992 Mortal Kombat movie copyright 1995
Gee, who owns the IP? There also has to be a huge buttload of documents related to New Line obtaining the film rights to the IP that the producer of the film claims he owns. How could he possibly expect to win this case?

He must be claiming that he has the rights to certain things created for the film adaptation that were later incorporated into the games. Nothing else makes any sense. Well, nothing other than insanity.

well part 2 was just a movie trying to shove everything into a movie they could from the game without any sake for story, or good special effects.

He should get all the credit for MK Annihilation. That's the worst piece of **** ever.
