Title: cleaning the sp
Post by: DavidGX on April 15, 2003, 10:36:00 PM
I just got the Gameboy Advance SP and I love it. But I haven't cleaned the screen yet for fear of scratching the screen. I had a lot of trouble with the gbc and I'd like to avoid that this time around. Does anyone know of a way to clean it without scratching/damaging it? What to use? Cloths? Sprays?

Thanks a lot.

Well, I have a GBA, and I just use my shirt....

It has a lot of scratches on it though, so I can't really tell if it has caused any new ones...  (I generally throw my GBA in my backpack without protection.)

Well I mean just the screen, which is probably not what you meant unless you have the gba and not the gba sp where the screen is protected when folded up. I keep my sp in the official case (sweet as hell I might add) when not in use. It never goes in my pocket or anywhere else. It's in my hands or the case. I just need to find an effective way to clean the screen without scratching or damaging it in anyway.

I think a lot of people use a 100% cotton cloth, like a tee shirt, to clean their screen.

I got a nice case at best buy. It fits the GBA-SP perfectly and has room for two games + one additional game can be in the SP.

what?!?  doesn't anyone remember that post a few weeks back about the guy who scratched up his gamecube because he placed a towel over it?  i dare not touch any nintendo product with a cloth--cotton or otherwise.  that's why i play my games in a "clean room" with those intel guy dancing around me.

I had emailed nintendo last night about this and they sent me a response, I don't have the email but I'll tell you what they told me.

You should clean the screen with a slightly dampaned cloth, like a tshirt. Never use any solvents. And never use paper towls as they will scratch the screen.

For cleaning your sp or anything you dont want to scratch, I recommend the cloth they sell to clean Oakley sunglasses. Its made of the same material as the Oakley bags which is what you are supposed to clean them with. Go to your local sunglass hut or whatever sunglass store in your area that sells expensive glasses, they should have them. They run around 10.00 bucks.

I use a one of those Kleenex tissues, because sometimes smudges can be formed in the corners of the screen, and it's hard to get in the corners with a thick t-shirt or cotton cloth that's used for cleaning glasses.
