Title: DOMO DSi GAMES!!
Post by: vudu on June 02, 2009, 08:32:41 PM
Why has the Internet not informed me about these yet?   >:(

They're listed on the Nintendo Channel in the new video DSiWare Upcoming Title Lineup (currently on the 4th page).

Games shown so far are as follows:

They look totally sweet.   ;D

Here's a trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRhjcRq28rs) of all 5 games--Domo starts at 0:24.

I swear, these are what will make me finally drop $170 on a DSi.

Because they are being over shadowed and wasn't at the press conference.

I'm thinking about getting a DSi now. Any word on pricing?

Somewhere between $2 to $8 each.  Hopefully towards the lower end of that scale.  ;)

EDIT:  Added a trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRhjcRq28rs) to the original post.

I used to confuse Domo with Pedo Bear.

Just remember: Domo is after young cats, pedo bear after young girls...

I picked up Pro-Putt Domo.  I only played through 9 holes, but my first impressions are it's bad.  The physics are completely wonky; sometimes you'll bounce off a wood post and your ball will just go flying.  It's really hard to gauge how hard you need to hit the ball--thankfully, the game is pretty forgiving in that you can be going very fast and as long as it rolls over the hole it will go in (unlike Wii Sports Resort's golf).

On the second hole I accidentally went into the water trap.  The game spawned my ball about an inch from the edge of the water and it was impossible for me to hit the ball without re-entering the water unless I shot in the complete opposite direction of the hole.  :(

As you play there are coins that you can pick up by following the "suggested path".  It's a neat addition, but as far as I can tell they don't do anything!  At the end of my 9 holes I came in 2 under par with 60 coins but I still lost because two CPUS--which you never see--scored 4 and 3 under par.  The coins didn't count for anything.   >:(

Why on earth did these ever get released?

Just another chilling reminder that I should try and make a DSiWare or WiiWare game.  If this crap can come out.. surely MY crap can come out!

I think because Nintendo got an easy license from NHK to get Domo so they needed to do something with him.

Here's the Nintendo Life review. (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/pro_putt_domo_dsiware)  IT LIES.

Your ball will even react differently depending on what type of surface it's currently sitting on. If you're on a hard surface, you're ball will roll a lot farther than if you're on short grass, and likewise being in taller grass or sand will require you to strike the ball with a lot more force in order to make it travel long distances. You'll soon realize that the physics of the game are actually quite accurate and will have to be taken into effect if you're to be successful.

WRONG.  Flower patches will slow you down but I certainly wouldn't call it "realistic".  Your ball will go from zipping across the screen to a dead halt.  After you bounce off a surface sometimes your ball will move faster than before it hit the wall.  What?!?  And as I said before, you can sink a putt even if you ball is moving quite fast, so the game certainly doesn't take momentum into account.

The first thing you'll notice about this title is how detailed the graphics in the game are. You certainly wouldn't expect a 200 Point title to feature this type of visual polish, but it's refreshing to see it just the same.

It's a Japan-only GBA game, broken up into chunks.  Do your homework!  Also, that second sentence doesn't even make sense!

Each hole features its own distinct look and feel and there are plenty of impressive little graphical nuances thrown into each hole for you to enjoy.

Every hole looks the same.

Barring a slight lack of replay value, there's not much this inexpensive little DSiWare title does wrong.

There's also not much it does right.  It's fun, and probably worth 200 points (especially when you get them for 25 cents on the dollar) but this isn't the hidden gem that the reviewer makes it out to be.

Given the mixed opinions of the game I think anyone interested should probably just buy the game. It's only $2 which means it's essentially free. I bought it this morning, and if I ever get around to playing it I'll be interested to see how my experience matches up with the reviews and vudu's experience.

Nintendo Life reviewed all the Domo DSi games.  If their review scores are to be believed, Pro-Putt Domo is actually the best one!  Scary!!

Pro-Putt Domo - 7/10 (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/pro_putt_domo_dsiware)
White-Water Domo - 5/10 (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/white_water_domo_dsiware)
Crash-Course Domo - 6/10 (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/crash_course_domo_dsiware)
Hard-Hat Domo - 4/10 (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/hard_hat_domo_dsiware)
Rock-n-Roll Domo - 6/10 (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/rock_n_roll_domo_dsiware)

I'm kind of sad to see that Hard-Hat Domo is such a stinker.  It looked promising back at E3.  :(

White-Water looks exciting.  Checkout his Domo animations.

These games aren't worth the 2 dollars each, IMO.
