Title: Endless Ocean 2: Blue World
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on June 02, 2009, 07:02:59 PM
Well not much to say so far but it is the sequel to one of my favorite Wii games. My hope is that the ocean has no boundaries and that it has no region lock when it comes to playing with people online.

Just saw the trailer on the Nintendo Channel and it is great. Some of the animals are vicious. I think I remember someone posting that they wanted dangerous animals.

The first game IMO, is better then the visually superior (though not by a ton) Aquanauts for PS3. If they can add some vicious animals it would make for an interesting experience (And I may be too scared to go into the trench this time!).

Awesome news. Endless Ocean is the first game I got for the Wii (excluding Wii Sports and Wii Play), so I will very likely be getting this one. I wonder if it will still be $30...?

Wii Speak is confirmed, and like Maxi said you can be put in danger. Also you choose where you want to go via a GLOBE, yes a GLOBE that you spin around. You can go to rivers and some of the water is super murky and supposedly quite impressive.

Sweetness! Vicious animals eh? That'll be interesting. I really enjoyed the first game especially at it's budget price. I'll have to pick this one up!

Good. Very good. I will buy this. I hope this means other titles are coming as well.

Can't wait!
vicious undersea animals are going to scare the crap out of me. The abyss is still the scariest thing I've ever played, hell it's more disturbing than things like the cradle in thief games which is already incredibly scary, and that was with even the cheesy music and the harmless animals, and now they can attack you!? argh!

Is there a food/chum/bait system where I can secretly attach steak to another player's diver, causing them to be chased by predators for lols?

I'm not sure if I like the sound of that whole "vicious animals" thing. I like the peaceful nature of the first game, it was very relaxing not having to worry about anything. But if there is a way to lose, then, well, I'm going to stumble upon it!

Don't know if you saw the video yet but it gives you some warning that there are dangerous animals around. So you just need to keep an eye out.

I wonder if there will be an option so you can turn on and off the dangerous animals.Like before you dive you can select to have dangerous animals or not have them. That would be neat.

That's higher than its original price. I guess it didn't sell too well...
I never did "complete" Endless Ocean. When Super Smash Brothers Brawl was released I switched over to it and never picked it up again. Maybe I should try to get back into it before the sequel is released.

I tried that once. With only preset chat it is kind of awkward. The water pen doesn't work well as a source of communication.
We could still try it sometime though. You could show me around since it's been so long that I wouldn't remember where anything is.

The visuals are even more gorgeous then the first game (including above land). It appears to be more open as well, not only that but you can feed various fish (including the dangerous animals which is risky).

I am glad it has WiiSpeak support. I may pick this up. My sister had the first one and I tried it but it felt really lonely and restrictive.
Also, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Endless Ocean 1 sold over a million copies.
But will this one support SD custom song selection? I hope you can make a whole play list this time instead of one song.

Yeah, the first game is terribly uninteresting to play online because there's no real form of communication. I don't think I would want to play this without the accessory. I wonder if there will be a Wii Speak bundle?

Yeah, the only redeeming factor of the third movie was the soundtrack...like the need for this game to have a custom one!
It is out in Japan. We just need to badger someone with a Japanese Wii to get it. Maybe the NWR Japanese correspondent could look into it?
Title: Re: Endless Ocean 2 coming to North America
Post by: Mop it up on November 16, 2009, 04:19:06 AM
Wow, I didn't realize this came out back in September in Japan.
There is a website up for the game here:
http://www29.atwiki.jp/forever_blue2/
I managed to find this in the mess:
Quote
また前作のようにSDカードに入れた曲をかけながら潜ることはできなくなりました。
Somewhat accurate translation: "Previous option of diving whilst using tracks on the SD card is no longer available."
So there you go, no custom soundtrack support.
Title: Re: Endless Ocean 2 coming to North America
Post by: Stratos on November 16, 2009, 04:20:11 AM
Does Nintendo hate the SD slot and regret ever adding it? Support the dang thing!
Though maybe they found it was a security loop hole so that is why they are not using it anymore.

It's a question I have myself. The music in Excite Truck is mop-awful, and if it weren't for the custom soundtrack feature then I don't know if I could have tolerated the game. It has me worried about playing ExciteBots since it doesn't have the feature...
How difficult is it to implement, anyway?
Title: Re: Endless Ocean 2 coming to North America
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on November 16, 2009, 12:48:23 PM
This made me wonder if I was wrong about the custom soundtracks, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not. It looks like you can save the photos that you take to the SD card.

Sadly, I do not. I use Google Translate. Although, it is really, REALLY bad when it comes to translating Japanese, so I still have to take what it gives me and create an intelligible sentence out of it. In that way, it almost is like reading another language.

I decided to pre-order this game from Amazon because of the possibility of receiving a free Wii Speak accessory. It seems a bit dubious however; the listing has "One Wii Speak microphone will come bundled in the box with a limited number of Endless Ocean 2: Blue World orders." tacked onto it, and the order confirmation makes no mention of that. To top it off, the game was recently on the top ten list of best-sellers in the videogames category. It sounds pretty iffy, so here's hoping. :)

Thanks for the tip Mop_it_up. I decided to pre-order it as well. I figure I'm not out anything if I don't end up getting the Wii Speak after all. Plus I got one of my friends to pre-order it, so at least I'll have diving buddies even if I can't speak to them.

Sometimes they bizarrely show long shipping times but the items still arrive really fast. It's happened to me a number of times. Interestingly it seems to happen most with 3rd party Wii titles. The most recent was Shattered Memories. I think this happens when they have to order the title from another place like a distributor.

I'm picturing Mop it up feeding Maxi to the sharks for protection.
It's part of the story. There is something causing the animals to be more aggressive and it's your job to resolve the issue. I'll bet there will be no danger in the multiplayer mode similar to how you can't find spiders, scorpions or attacking bees in Animal Crossing.

I think they purposely exaggerate the shipping times so that either:
1) The game will be much sooner than you expect so you will be impressed and therefore be a happy customer.
2) In case something goes wrong and there are delays, or whatever. This way they've covered their ass somewhat.

Yeah, Amazon does this quite often. I think they do it so that if something happens that delays it, they are less likely to disappoint consumers. I think it's the same reason Nintendo gives longer estimated shipping times for repairs than what actually happens.

I read the Amazon pre-order guarantees you'll always get the lowest price if it drops between when you pre-order and when the game is released. So if you pre-ordered at $29.99 and it drops down to $19.99, then you would only pay $19.99.
Am I right? I rarely pre-order, and when I have that's never happened for me, so I can't verify it, but that's what Amazon says anyway.

Amazon's preorder policy only counts if the price drops between the date of your preordered and the release date.
So if you preordered at $29.99 and the game releases at $29.99 and then the next day it drops down to $19.99 you're still stuck paying $29.99.
Title: Re: Endless Ocean 2: Blue World
Post by: Stratos on February 24, 2010, 05:22:25 PM
It never drops that soon, though. Usually it takes a few weeks and even then most of those 'price drops' are $5 and temporary at most.

Does anyone know if the online play in this game is region-restricted? The only reason I ask is because it was in the first game.

Seems like a bizarre thing to restrict but maybe they did it to ensure a certain level of performance in the online?

This game's actually getting commercials. On TV! It's almost like they want to sell this one.

Well, I got the game and posted my code.
Who's up for diving some time? I'm excited to hunt for treasure. Apparently you can level up your character which gives you more skills at diving and helps you find better treasures.

I'm going to call Target in the morning. They didn't have it when I went down there on the 24th. They sold out of all of the games. There was some with Wii Speak but I already have Wii Speak. I need to decide what games I am getting this month. Fragile Dreams and Red Steel 2 come out in March. As well as Pokemon Soul Silver.

I bought this game because it was getting good reviews and I needed a Wii Speak for Monster Hunter anyway, making the game effectively $10. I just came back to school from break today and left my games at home because I'm having my birthday party there over the weekend, but I should have everything set up here by next week, and I'd love to try out my Wii Speak and play this with you people.

Diving night would be cool. I primarily bought the game to interact with y'all here at NWR so I'm hoping to go on a lot of dives. Though the treasure hunting is engrossing me as well.

Heck yes, people! A diving night would ROCK!
However, to do it with Wii Speak, we all need to add each other's Endless Ocean 2 codes AND Wii Friend Codes.
So start ah-addin'! I'll figure out my Endless Ocean 2 code tonight. Post your Wii Friend Codes and Endless Ocean 2 codes in the Endless Ocean 2 Wii Friend Code thread.

I'd be surprised if you needed to add Wii Console Numbers in order to use Wii Speak. No other Wii Speak compatible games are like that.

I played with GP for a bit last night and it just told me her's was either not connected right or not plugged in. Nothing about having the Wii System code as well. She couldn't use it that late because of her sleeping roomie.

Ah, I thought Wii Speak worked through the Wii Friend codes, and it worked in tandem with the Endless Ocean 2 code. But if that's not the case, let's just add Endless Ocean 2 codes to the thread.

You have to go through the whole beginning 'tutorial' part. Once you get to Nine Ball Island and are allowed to explore it on your own you can walk over to the gate on the docks and start doing online stuff. You have to try and connect to NWFC to get your code and then you can click the key image to see your FC.

There is the game by itself.Saw it at Gamestop after I got the bundle at Target.I would imagine that the game by itself is very hard to find.I think Nintendo is shipping out more WS Bundles than the game by itself.Another thing is that the single copies of the game is being snatched up quicker.
Anyone with a second WiiSpeak unit want to send it to me? ;D
Funny you should say that I have an extra Wii Speak. PM me your mailing address and I will ship it out in the next few weeks or so. I will also PM you back with games that support Wii Speak.

So who is interested in diving with me either today or tomorrow?
Title: Re: Endless Ocean 2: Blue World
Post by: Mop it up on May 07, 2010, 04:47:26 PM
Maybe tomorrow. I don't have a Wii Speak, and this game doesn't support a USB keyboard, so I can't really communicate. Plus the onscreen Wiiboard keys are in alphabetical order, making it difficult to chat. But we can try it if you want, just don't expect much chatter out of me.
The only real reason I bought this game was to play it with a friend. She recently had surgery on her foot, and is taking off work for 8 weeks. I found out she bought a few games to have something to do, and this was one of them, so I bought it too so we can play together.

The sequence works, but I think you have to get it right on the first try. Otherwise you'll have to restart your dive. Just remember, on the multisensor, the icon all the way on the left is stone, and the one just to the right of it is metal.

There's no USB keyboard support, but there is a Wiiboard, even though it is stupidly in alphabetical order. Like I said in my previous post, I didn't buy this game to play with you folks here, I bought it to play with my friend. We use the phone.
So, yeah, I'd be silent. If you still wanted to try diving I might be up for it, but if not, that's fine, because it wasn't my intention with this game.

Don't take it personally. There isn't a whole lot to do online: you can't advance the story, and any fish you find aren't recorded in the encyclopedia. The three things you can do are salvage treasure, find coins, and unveil the map, most of which I have already done with my friend. Calling you wouldn't be free for me. It's too bad none of you can use AIM, that is better than any kind of chat the Wii offers.
Pizza Hut doesn't deliver to my area. It was from a local place, and it was cheese, olive oil, and garlic.

Can you be more specific by saying the name of the area? If you didn't say the name because you feel it is a spoiler, use spoiler tags. Also which part are you stuck at? There are several sequences there, if it's the place I think it is.
General advice is to make sure you have purchased the best air tank and regulator that are available.

Do you mean the mural by the entrance? If so gust go from room to room and play with the statues. If not then go up and I think you need to play with another mural. If not then just play with everything in room and talk to everyone. But refill your air first, you are going to need it.
