Title: Connection Problems
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on May 31, 2009, 10:00:46 PM
Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

I've been getting the above alot lately. I only bring it up because tomorrow is the start of E3 & i would like NWR to be fully functional during the entire event.  So lock whoever it is, in whatever basement you have, for as long as it takes, to fix whatever the problem is, to make sure this site has a good E3.

thanx

I'm experiencing this too, so I don't think this problem is specific to certain users.
Is there just a lot of site traffic right now and the servers can't handle it?

This has happened to me for the last 2 days. I am guessing that that is the case Mop_it_up.

Server probably got spooked when Reggie jogged from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Broke a few buildings along the way like Juggernaut.

One problem:  The guy who fixes this stuff (i.e. MegaByte) is at E3.  Oh, the humanity!

So how did we do the rest of the show?  I never had any access issues.

As far as I know everything went swimingly.

Yeah I didn't have any problems either. I guess it was just a freak occurrence or something...

From now on I'm going to do posts like that, assuming that the forums are still up.  I figured the Announcements area of the site is the best way to do it, but if there's a more effective place then let me know.  I realize that we don't use the Announcements forum very much at all so people pretty much ignore it, but I think its use makes sense for cases like this.

Just substitute the funhouse background with a huge flashing banner that says the main site is down.

bump.

Just started getting the error page, but the connection has been sloooooooow all day long.

sometimes 5 minutes to load a forum off of the main index and then sometimes upto a minute or so to load an actual thread from the sub forum.

It's cuz of all those awful "club" threads.

Staff has been seeing this too.  It seems to be a bit better now, but either Aaron or myself will investigate.

I was thinking about posting this too, if I could have connected long enough to post a thread. I think it started late last night for me. I thought I had a bunch of spyware or something but the scan came back clean and other sites are loading fine.

It seems to not be causing me anymore trouble.

really slow loading from the index.

once in the sub forum it's not that bad though.

Really? The index is the only part of the forum running relatively well. The sub forums are horribly slow for me at the moment.

If I click directly into a post from the right side of the index, that is the only way it doesn't take 5 minutes to load the sub forum to see the new post.

W00t!

I hate when the internet gets slow.

~UPDATE~
Just thought I would mention that the forums experienced some slowdown between 12PM and 2PM today (Oct 30th).

I'm mentioning every time I experience it to better help you guys pinpoint the problems.
