Title: Radio Free Nintendo: Episode 147
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on May 24, 2009, 10:02:00 AM
Before Jon Lindemann runs off to get hitched, we wrangled him into this episode full of E3 expectations and wild speculation.

Yee-haw! E3 2009 is less than two weeks out, and we have a lot to say about it. With two E3 veterans on the crew, and James getting ready for his first trip to the show, the odd man out is Greg, who moderates the festivities while everyone else tosses out bold predictions.

Will Nintendo make our dreams come true? What lies in store for Retro Studios and EAD Tokyo? Will this be the year of Ubisoft's redemption? Can we fit anymore Activision games into our living rooms? Is Virtual Handheld on the horizon? Will Nintendo announce any new DS games? Listen to the show for bullshit answers to these questions and many more!

Next week: we catch up on Listener Mail and go spelunking with Zelda II: Adventure of Link! Be sure to follow and contribute to the RetroActive discussion in the Zelda II forum thread.

I have a question related to just podcasts in general... Is it possible to listen to these using the Wii Internet browser? If nobody responds then I guess I'll just try it...

No, the Opera browser doesn't have an MP3 codec built in, as far as I know. But let us know if you get it to work!

Hmm, didn't realize that LEGO Rock Band was coming to DS as well.  Makes sense.

GRRR, Star Fox controlled WONDERFULLY in WarioWare, does no one remember this!?  I really really would love to see that happen.  Also, if we had that, it would at least stand out more from S&P.  You guys should really go back and try that out.

Agreed, Swanzy.  The next two weeks will be crazy for me, but after that we gotta run some levels.

Yes I am sure they will be crazy for you!

Johnny while at E3 you need to tell Activision to make a Dick Van Dyke Hero, see what they say. They could make it annualizable by using different stars!

I don't think Retro showed that they're good at updating old Nintendo stuff in 3d, they'd have to do more in that direction before we declare that their speciality.

I also doubt there'd be a new Pilotwings, the name probably doesn't have much mindshare anymore. Maybe Wii Fly.

Wii Fly High?  Maybe get Jim Jones and Dipset to star (or would the proper term be "represent"?).

I would love an excuse to play Left 4 Dead again. Let me know if you guys need another player.

After listening to a bulk of the show, I would like to state that I haven't written my 10/10 review for The Beatles Rock Band. I'm just a big big fan of Harmonix and the games they make.

Actually Lindy needs to play LOTRO with me again first, and since he is hiding from my PMs, I'm calling him out HERE.

Oh yeah, week 2 of my pseudo strike of NWR because of no mention of Jungle Speed on the podcast!

GP, best way to get Jungle Speed mentioned is to write an email about it. Tell us why we and the listeners should care.

For the record, this is week 5 of ExciteStrike. There'll be an update on the next episode.

It is not fun that way.

Just listened to this episode today.  I think it was more fun to wait until after E3 was almost over this way this way I can laugh at how wrong your predictions were.  Not that it's your fault mind you--your predictions were actually quite good.  It's just that Nintendo decided to do the exact opposite of everything you suggestion.  ;D

Highlights include James Jones declaring "Nintendo will definitely not release Mario Galaxy 2" and everyone agreeing that we'd get a glimpse at Retro's next project.

I'm surprised no one kicked around the idea of a new Metroid game being shown.

Surprised? I wouldn't be, Prime series didn't sell, and there was no revival hype to get the game selling either. It's only been 2 years since Corruption. There was lots else from the hat Nintendo could have pulled from.

True.  I was (pleasantly) surprised to see anything about a new Metroid game at all.

It's just that every other major franchise was at least mentioned--Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Pikmin; yet Metroid was absent from everyone's radar.

"Thrilled" and "shocked" are the words I would use. That one was out of the blue.

Metroid is the one series that baffles me in terms of Nintendo's approach to it.  It's like they begrudgingly keep making games in the series, but they'd love an excuse not to.

Well Metroid doesn't sell much compared to Mario or Zelda or Pokemon. I bet a devotion to the memory of Gunpei keeps the series alive, at least in part.
