Title: EA Sports Active Blog: Day 2

My second workout was better organized than the first; it had me switching controller setups less often and generally flowed better. It was also noticeably more intense, resulting in 180 calories burned in the same length of time (20-25 minutes). This one had me doing forward and reverse lunges, bicep curls and arm extensions, forehand and backhand tennis swings, and more intense running sessions with high knee and kick-up strides. I tried switching from the male trainer to the female one, but she's equally insipid, and I'll probably turn off trainer feedback (a.k.a. voice samples during workouts) completely once I've sampled most of the activities.

My other activities today have also been quite physical. I spent two hours hand-washing a big pile of dishes, because I don't have an automatic dishwasher. I've also taken a couple of bike rides totaling over an hour. So, I expect another good weight loss tomorrow, though probably not as big as the one Wii Fit detected today.

Tomorrow is slated as a rest day, according to Active's 30-day plan, but I'm going to try exercising anyway due to the compressed schedule leading up to E3. Besides, this isn't exactly weight-lifting, where your muscles are severely torn up and need a couple of days to regenerate.

Cumulative Weight Loss: 2.4 lbs

Note: I'm aware that this is an extreme amount of weight loss for one day. Part of it is probably due to normal weight shifts that happen from day to day, and I don't expect to continue dropping pounds at this rate. It could even go upwards a bit despite my best efforts. The important thing is to watch the overall trend.

Make sure you weigh yourself at the same time each day.  Probably first thing in the morning is best, since that's your "dry weight" after your body has sat there digesting (albeit slowly) while you were asleep.

Yeah, that's when I always weigh in for Wii Fit.

Is anyone following these? Are they too long for a daily blog? Tell me what you want to know about the game, as we don't really have any other coverage of it on the site as of right now.

The problem I ran into with Wii Sports is that after awhile the cardio wasn't high enough impact for me to burn many calories. Is this any better?

Jonny: I like the length of your blogs; they're functioning as both daily "experience" blogs and as a comprehensive software review. I was considering picking this up, so I appreciate the info.

Yeah, definitely. The workouts aren't super heavy on cardio; it seems to be 3-5 minutes of cardio at the beginning and again at the end of your routine, with maybe another cardio sequence in the middle. This may change as the 30-day challenge goes on. You can also create a custom workout with different kinds of cardio and set the intensity yourself. But if you're a long-distance runner or someone who does the stair climber for 45 minutes at the gym, I doubt there is anything in Active for you.
