Title: Activision Announces Guitar Hero Fall Lineup
Post by: NWR_pap64 on May 09, 2009, 11:22:47 PM
Guitar Hero 5 is amongst many new titles.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=18396

Given the success of the Guitar Hero franchise, Activision has decided to expand the series further by experimenting with new Hero games while perfecting the existing gameplay. Aside from Guitar Hero 5, two other new Hero games were announced.

DJ Hero will be the series' first entry focused on disc scratching. As with other Guitar Hero titles, DJ Hero will be packaged with a special controller. The game itself will feature songs from various genres, ranging from R&B to Dance.

Band Hero is another first for the franchise, as it is the first family oriented game in the series. Rated E10+, Band Hero will follow the ideas established by both Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour and create a family-friendly environment where players can play guitar, bass, drums, and sing vocals.

As aforementioned, Guitar Hero 5 was also announced and will feature a few new abilities such as changing players, difficulty levels, and instruments on the fly.

The slate will transform the way consumers enjoy and engage with music by offering the largest variety of music genres, innovative technologies and new social entertainment experiences for existing fans and millions of new consumers who previously have not joined Guitar Hero’s global community of fans.

• The company's groundbreaking DJ Hero expands Guitar Hero's signature social gaming to all-new consumers with the addition of diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. This is what is making me sick of peripheral based music games. Damn it Konami why did you not keep up with Beatmania in America.

How can they seriously make a Guitar Hero 5? There was never a game called Guitar Hero 4.

Probably because Guitar Hero World Tour was pretty much known as Guitar Hero 4.

I doubt it's the final name. Guitar Hero World Tour was called Guitar Hero IV until a few months before its release.

Probably because Guitar Hero World Tour was pretty much known as Guitar Hero 4.
"Tour" rhymes with "four". That's good enough.

So that means that Guitar Hero 5 will eventually become Guitar Hero: Live?

Guitar Hero World Tour was the fourth Guitar Hero game, and it was named World Tour because "tour" rhymes with "four". That's good enough that they can call the next one Guitar Hero 5, since the last game had a word that sounded like "four".

It isn't funny if I have to explain it, if it was even funny to begin with.

We got that.  The problem is "tour" doesn't rhyme with "four".  Just like "dew" doesn't rhyme with "sew".

I'm sure with SOME sort of accent "tour" and "four" could rhyme. ;)

I just find it so incredibly silly that Activision is whoring Guitar Hero so much that it has it's own fall lineup like it's a fucking TV network.  Plus "fall" lineup?  Not just "2009 lineup" but a lineup for just one season as Guitar Hero games are now so frequently released that just stating what titles are due for an entire year is not specific enough.

Guitar Hero has made music social again

As an actual musician that's kind of painful to hear.  Anyone who actually plays music has always been well aware of how social it is.  I really enjoy these games as games but dislike a lot of the culture behind it all.

Don't forget the leaked GH Van Halen! That's the specific band game for the Summer, any guesses for who the next artist to debut in GH will be this Holiday season?

I'm burning out, plus I'm growing ever fond of Rock Band and their continuous plethora of DLC for the same game.

What are you talking about? How do you pronounce "tour"? It sounds just like ""four" but with a "T" whenever I hear anyone pronounce it...

It makes sense to me. Though some people pronounce it Tu-er and others pronounce it toe-er (toe as in the digits on your feet).

Now that I think about it, I have heard it pronounced that way, by I think a British person. Americans bastardize the English language though... which must be so that we can form rhymes.

Have you never heard anyone say tour (other than in person since maybe the people in your are have a accent that pronounces them oddly)? It's two syllables: to-or or to-ur (http://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/audio/lunaWAV/T04/T0400100.wav). Four is 1 syllable and pronounced the same as fore or the number 4 (http://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/audio/lunaWAV/F03/F0324700.wav). Maybe with some accents they sound similar, but in plain English (meaning with not accent to alter the sound) they don't sound alike.

Even if you pronounce tour "toe-er", it still doen't rhyme with "four" (unless you pronounce it wrongly as "four-er".

I usually hear "tour" pronounced as "tore" or whatever. Maybe people just talk so fast that it sounds like one syllable, sort of how words like "gardener" can sound like "gardner".

I know people with a Boston accent pronounced gardener as gardner (and also pronounce "chowder" as "chow-dah").

Too bad this was pointed out to me, because now whenever somebody says "tour", I'm going to really listen and see (hear?) if they are pronouncing it as "to-ur" or "tore".

It rhymes. get over it.
if you pronounce it as "tore" like i always hear it pronounced (seriously, who pronounces it as two syllables? he left town, he went on "toe-er") then it rhymes.
If you pronounce it as toe-er, then you are trying too hard. Welcome to America, relax, stay awhile.

I have NEVER hear anyone not pronounce it as two syllables. Never in person, never on TV, never in movies, never in video games. That is also the official pronunciation according to dictionary.com and multiple other dictionaries. I have seen a few different pronunciations, but all of them are two syllables. Lots of people leave out the R when they say "library" and "February", that doesn't mean they aren't pronouncing it wrong.

I agree with this. This may just be something I've never noticed before, since the two syllables sort of flow into each other.

Off-topic:  Everyone here seen the preview for Dance Flick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uhjbN0T14U)?  Move looks horrible, but I can't help but laugh at the following back-and-forth.

Person 1:  Man, there ain't no I in team.
Person 2:  There aint?
Person 1:  No.
Person 2:  What about group?
Person 1:  No, not in group either.
Person 2:  Crew?
Person 1:  Nuh-uh.
Person 2:  Gang.
Person 1:  No.
Person 2:  Insemble.
Person 1:  You just mispronounced that word to make it sound like it had an I in it.

I have to agree with this. I keep trying to justify me POSSIBLY seeing this movie with the fact that this is one of those parody fliicks actually done by the Wayans Bros (original Scary Movie.. 2 was ok) so it might end up being better than my expectations. We'll see.

Is it done by the Wayans Bros though?
I just remember them saying "by the guys that brought you White Chicks and Lilttle man"
that doesn't mean the Wayans are involved. Its that level of trust that got us to watch Scary Movie 3 & 4, Date Movie and every other horrible movie made relating to the success of the 1st two Scary Movies. Now their trying to do the same thing with White Chicks and to a lesser extent Little man.

If the Wayans themselves aren't in it, then don't believe the hype. Where is the next comedy brought to us by the guys that brought us Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood?

All the new trailers I've seen include "A Wayans Film" or something like that at the end, and they even show one of the younger Wayans (the one that played the he-might-be-gay character, don't remember his name) as the father of the baby that gets put in the locker.

While I am sure it is correct in this case, I wouldn't rely on Netflix for filmography as they do have errors on many titles and refuse to fix them. Last time I had Netflix (in December), they STILL had Kelsay Grammar listed as being in "The Simpsons Movie" even though I had sent them a e-mail months earlier pointing out that he was not in the movie and even offered proof that he was not in the movie (or any of the DVD/BD extras).
