Sixteen DS and eleven Wii titles sold at least a million copies during Nintendos 2009 Fiscal Year

When Nintendo recently revealed their fiscal year financial reports, the company announced that twenty-seven Wii and DS titles published by Nintendo had sold over one million copies during the period. The company also revealed that the number of first-party and third-party million-selling games on the DS has jumped from 57 to 91 in just a year. The number of first-party and third-party million-selling Wii games has jumped from 26 to 54 in just a year.

On the DS, Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros., Brain Age, and Mario Kart DS all managed to sell more than four million copies, which is very impressive due to the fact that these titles were released several years ago. On the Wii, Wii Sports (even though it is bundled with the Wii in almost every region, Nintendo still counts it in their fiscal results), Wii Fit, Wii Play, and Mario Kart Wii all ended up selling more than ten million copies. These sales figures show the pure selling power of Nintendo first-party titles, and also show that Nintendo's "evergreen sales philosophy" works.

Below is a list of the first party Wii and DS games that have managed to sell more than a million copies during the last fiscal year:

3. Brain Age - 17.41 million units (4.43 million)

4. Pokémon Diamond/Pearl - 16.81 million (2.04 million)

5. Mario Kart DS - 14.61 million (4.16 million)

6. Brain Age 2 - 13.71 million (2.88 million)

7. Animal Crossing: Wild World - 10.79 million (1.26 million)

8. Super Mario 64 DS - 7.5 million (1.38 million)

9. Mario Party DS - 5.85 million (2.22 million)

10. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - 4.5 million (2.92 million)

11. Pokémon Platinum - 3.75 million (3.75 million)

12. Kirby Super Star Ultra - 2.36 million (2.36 million)

13. Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia - 2.04 million (1.5 million)

14. Rhythm Heaven - 1.92 million (1.92 million)

15. Personal Trainer: Cooking - 1.84 million (1.84 million)

16. Professor Layton and the Curious Village - 1.65 million (1.4 million)

1. Wii Sports - 45.71 million (24.15 million)

but... but... The Wii userbase only buys it for Wii Sports and never buys another game again! The internets say so!

Actually, the word on the street is that this list only accounts first party titles which means that third party games bomb on Wii unless you are a party game, sports game or a music game.

If its on the internet it must be true!

And if you read the article DS has 91 million sellers and Wii has 54 million sellers, that number accounts for first and third party games.
