Title: whats the best way to play Wii on computer monitor ?
Post by: AV on May 01, 2009, 12:58:21 AM
This is pretty cheap (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wii-DVD-VCD-Video-USB-AV-line-in-to-Computer-laptop-PC_W0QQitemZ140307088556QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090312?IMSfp=TL090312122001r16099)
or
This is a little pricey (http://www.vdigi.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=2&category_id=3&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1&vmcchk=1&Itemid=1)
and finally
And this (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10530)
I have Widescreen 23 in LCD screen. I want to play virtual console and wiiware games on it without worry it won't work.

The best way is to simply have an LCD monitor with TV inputs.

1 is a terrible option.
2. Like I said, I don't believe all wii ware games and VC games will run with this. I'll check and get back to you sunday or monday.
3. This one requires conversion, plus don't you already have component in on this LCD Screen?

2. is basically the same as 3. stuck inside a fatty cable (they both convert). The blue light on 2. shows it's drawing power from the console in order to perform the YPrPb-to-RGB conversion.
3. can be much cheaper than 2. (search on eBay), but for the price of 2. you can buy 3. and HAVE a usable component cable for regular HDTVs.
3. requires an available USB port to draw power from, such as on the Wii.
2. will reduce cable clutter, if that matters.
2. and 3., when used with a non-interlaced monitor, do not display interlaced games. (Goodbye some VC, Madworld, Tenchu4, Kororinpa 1, Trauma Center 1, and some GameCube)
Wii needs to be set to 480p before being hooked up to the monitor, cuz the default 480i will not display on the monitor right away with either converter. (this is a problem for users who don't have a component cable with an HDTV; 480p option is not selectable unless some component cable equivalent is attached. If the converters are attached, 480p option is selectable, but you'd have to navigate the Wii settings menu "blindfolded")
1. is a terrible option.

Pro owns me. Like I said I have 2 and like the performance quite a lot. But not everything plays on it. (Got it for 20 bucks) :)

What fine establishment did you buy it from?

Yeah, option 2 doesn't play anything that doesn't have 480p support. You were better if you bought a TV that doubles as a PC monitor and there are plenty of those that have that feature.

I traded for it. On gametz.com. It was a nice deal. Same brand as number 2

it doesn't seem worth it. hell it doesn't seem worth getting component cables since quality is better but it only shows the flaws more of not having an HD console in mind.

Uh dude? Get the component cables. You have no idea how good a game like Mario Galaxy looks on a 50" 720p HDTV... let me just say that the game looks just as good if not better than some HD games, and on a computer monitor it isn't going to look that much worse. A sharp, and clear image is better than blur world. Besides, they're future proof... well hopefully they are unless Nintendo decides to do as they did by making the GC component cables not compatible with the Wii.

LOL wait are the component cables an option? Get those, no question.

Seriously, why the **** did you make this thread in the first place just to reach that conclusion?
Have fun with Super Blurrio Galaxy. Sell your Wii and leave the forums.
Get out.

HD games have graphical "flaws" too, and they have less of an excuse for them.

I have seen many 360 and PS3 games with bad Anti Aliasing.

For me Galaxy's graphical flaws became more noticeable with the components and the big lcd screen, but Metroid Prime Corruption looked amazing, far better than with the old normal cables.
Are this the only options for pc monitor? I enjoy playing in the big screen in the living room but I would prefer if I could play them all in my room with no one bothering me, but if it doesn't work for all games I wouldn't bother.

i got component cables to be future proof, but i don't got anything that will work for it yet.
i didn't want to get an HDTV because I don't really watch TV anymore. All the TV shows I enjoy are also online, so it seemed pointless. The monitor I had was tiny and old so upgrading to a new monitor seemed logical. I knew some HDTV's have pc input but i thought playing Wii, Watching TV and using as computer monitor it would be bad for the TV. However the HDTV resolution would be much worse than the monitor I got. I thought a simple cable would be ok, but it seems not the case
