Title: PREVIEWS: Madden NFL 10
Post by: NWR_Neal on April 29, 2009, 08:13:12 AM
Along with the new art style, this year's Wii Madden game also revamps the controls and adds a few new things.

This year's iteration of Madden on Wii is being developed by the series' main team, Tiburon, for the first time. Madden NFL 10 also features a unique new style that presents a larger than life take on the popular American sport. Every graphical aspect of the game has been touched on in the over exaggerated new style.

The players themselves have been shaped to reflect various position stereotypes. The quarterbacks are broad-shouldered heroic types; the offensive and defensive linemen are hulking refrigerators; the wide receivers and defensive backs are sleek and skinny. Though very cartoon-like, the new style maintains enough realism to avoid feeling over-the-top.

Like previous Wii iterations, Madden NFL 10 will retain the tried-and-true PlayStation 2 gameplay and Wii motion controls. This time, though the controls have been refined over the past three years, a few changes have been made.

First and foremost, many of the motion controls have been changed. Instead of featuring multiple gestures, the game will now only feature two, which will perform the most fitting maneuver for the situation. For instance, if you're a defensive back and you do a gesture, you'll swat the ball down. Also, some of the moves, such as the spin move and the juke, have been mapped to buttons to make it simpler.

The passing game has been totally revamped. Instead of the mixture of motion controls and button pressing, Tiburon has changed the passing to a point-and-click interface. Players now hike the ball and use the pointer to select a receiver, and then press a button to throw the ball. The old passing style will still be available for players that prefer that.

Last year added the Call Your Shots mode that allowed players to change their offensive player's routes right before the snap. This year adds the same mode to defense. Players can now select a defensive player and quickly change him to a zone, man-to-man, or blitz defense.

There will be more announcements to come as Madden NFL 10 gets closer to its August 14 release, including concrete information about the new multiplayer party modes.

i don't know what to think. it does look clean, but whats the point ? Casual gamers won't play madden, and this art style won't help. Madden is a hardcore game, you can put lipstick on a pig...

You want to know what kind of (American) football game sells to casuals? Blitz. Make Madden like Blitz and I'd be all over that!

I love Blitz as much as the next guy, but the latest version is already down to 10 bux.  Just not a safe bet anymore.

You mean the one which doesn't use the NFL license? Well of course nobody wants that, it isn't authentic. If Madden did it, it'd be a hit.

Meh, I wouldn't be so sure.  NFL tour is a mix between the two and it was an utter failure and it had the license.

Hey someone gets it.  Just because you CAN make everything a gesture doesn't mean you SHOULD.  :o

True, but it can be pretty confusing to remember which moves are on the buttons since they all could be gestures.

The style looks ok, but it's really distracting how the fingers of the players don't close around the ball.

I have yet to play madden on Wii, but the offense sounds pretty good. I have always wanted it to play more like PES; with the ability to point to who you'd like to pass it to (and if there was a pro feature, WHERE you want to pass it to). I also have always wanted to control my other players when I am running. Nothing serious, but the ability to tell them who to block would be nice.

Defense sound really good too.

Madden on the 360 (and I assume the PS3 as well) lets you control your lead blocker before switching to the ball carrier on running plays, that might even have been in the later GC ones too.

I demand strongly suggest would appreciate pictures in the previews and reviews when possible.

You could always go to the game profile page and look at the screens there.
I think the fabled NWR 2.0 will have a better way to put images into previews and reviews.

I believe/hope it still is. My guess is we'll see more at E3 and it'll come out this fall.
